The "gender card" is valid
because Clinton's opponents are fighting her "electability."

And her electability, as well as Obama's is based on race and gender. There are too many voters who would still prefer a white man. A Protestant Christian.

Thus the ones who opposed her, and this was in the debate, can talk about losing the race if she (or Obama) is the candidate.

1. her electablility is based on the vast rightwing hatred towards Clintons
It would be the same issue if Clinton's brother was running instead of his wife.

Barbara Boxer and Tammy Baldwin would be more acceptable to progressives.

4. You are 100% correct. Why do you think they have flamed and slurred
Hillary and Bill Clinton for nothing, for the last 16 years. They are first and foremost J-E-A-L-O-U-S of Bill Clinton's popularity and acceptance by America and the world. And the rejection of republicans. Now bush especially.

3. Can you explain everything after "Thus"?
"Thus the ones who opposed her, and this was in the debate, can talk about losing the race if she (or Obama) is the candidate."

makes no sense to me. How is "talk about losing the race" permitted if we accept the gender card is valid?

5. Valid from her point of view
If she were a man with exactly the same opinions, an electablity would not be an judged based on gender (or race, for Obama). Either you agree with the candidate or not. Electablity would be discussed based on the appeal of the candidate to many voters, extending beyond the Democratic party.

But it is easy to attack her electablity, and that of Obama's based on race and gender, even though no one would come out and say it, only imply.

While not saying this in public, of course, you can bet that the Edwards campaign is banking on it.

I have not made my choice, yet, and will vote for whoever the candidate is, but some of the group bashing on DU (remember Edwards' house last summer?) require a step back and looking at things with more fairness.

6. Still don't get what you meant with that line. Are you saying the losers can talk about gender if
she's the candidate?

7. This voter is tired of white men..especially white southern men....
And I AM one, white man, that is, not southern. ;)

That's unfortunate, because it means that I start out with a prejudice against Edwards, who I know to be a good man and an excellent candidate. I will definitely support him if he is the candidate, though.
