Marist poll: Hil's 34% pre-debate lead over Obama shrinks to 25% after debate
Edited on Tue Nov-06-07 05:13 PM by antiimperialist
A new Marist poll conducted in four days--two days before and two days after the latest Democratic debate that took place on Tuesday night, found the following:

Monday-Tuesday: Hil 52%, Obama 16%
Wednesday-Thursday: Hil 43%, Obama 18%

Hillary leads Giuliani in a hypothetical matchup, but the lead was 12% before the debate, and 9% afterwards.

1. Bad news.

Hillary leads Giuliani in a hypothetical matchup, but the lead was 12% before the debate, and 9% afterwards.

That suggests an overall more negative picture of Democrats as a result of the debate.

edit: Though it may not be bad in this situation...they all gathered in undecided, (and for Richardson) which traditionally would be bad news, but with Bush in charge I think that its actually fine, they will not hop the fence.

2. Kinda odd that 9 percent left Hillary, but only 2 percent joined Obama, while Edwards lost 2 points
Hell, the big winner looks like Richardson, who went from 2 to 6.

Actually, I guess the biggest gain was undecided. Although, most of those can be expected to rejoin Hillary after a couple weeks, if previous elections are any indication.

3. There was an average movement of 11-points in polling
... with Hillary losing ground and Obama gaining ground, in various combinations.

And I am one happy camper.

4. If you look back at previous years you will see that the polls
change continuously during the weeks before an election. They go up and down, seldom in one direction.

5. Yes, but this trend is true for all polls, and it's a big change
Hil is losing about 33% of her lead in all post-debate polls.

6. According to the poll, Clinton JUMPS UP TO 48%...
...and Obama slips back down to 17%. Am I reading this incorrectly? No snark...I'm just not sure if that is what the poll says.
