last week and its hardly a liberal bastion. Perhaps it was just a dissatisfied customer who was nearby the blogger. Then again it could be organized disinformation in the postings. The crowd was clearly and loudly cheering.

2. I was there
on the floor, row 18. Mellencamp started singing "Small Town" and I was remembering the 2004 Democratic convention when he sang that song on the day Edwards was formally introduced as VP candidate.

Then Mellencamp started talking about his "friend ... who just happens to be running for President". I was shocked and very happy, because I've supported Edwards since '03.

But then there was the booing. What a downer. I would say, from where I was, the booing and the cheers were about 50/50.

The booing was very rude, IMO. It was not political discourse at all, it was Mellencamp introducing a celebrity friend.

Los Lobos had played a smokin' set to open, Mellencamp was working his way through not just another oldies concert but one that had several songs of new, not-yet-recorded material. As far as I'm concerned, the discourteous assholes who booed were much worse than the guy in front of me who lit up, despite clear no smoking rules.

5. You must've been sitting next to the assholes.
Sorry they ruined for you what was obviously a powerful moment for the rest of the crowd.

And smoking at a concert! The nerve!

6. Did you have to have a mullet to get in the Mellencamp show?
Who would see him anyway... hey, I like some of his political tunes, but...
