From Sen. Clinton to Sen. Biden (anecdotal post primarily for Biden supporters)
Was talking to my sister today and she told me about a friend of hers, a woman of about 70, someone I know myself named Grace, who had been planning on supporting Clinton. My sister, like me, is a Biden supporter. They don't talk much about politics, but my sister knew she like Hillary and my sister told Grace that she liked Joe Biden.

Grace had been a Republican most of her life until Dubya came to power. She and her husband Wally had even voted for Bush in 2000, but soon came to regret it. In fact, it wasn't long before she was saying in her raspy voice, "can't stand the son-of-a-bitch," with cigarette in hand. Anyway, my sister told me today that they were talking and that out of the blue Grace said that she was liking Joe Biden more and more, and was thinking about supporting him. She still likes Hillary, but she doesn't think Hillary can win in a general election. She also told my sister about Jack.

Now, I've met Jack too. He's a beer drinkin' good ol' ditto head southern boy. I've talked to Jack about politics and we usually just end up laughing at each other, but he's hard core. Grace and him are old friends and he drives her crazy by sending her all these pro-Republican, anti-Democratic emails, usually in the form of jokes or stupid pictures. I get some of those myself, so I certainly understand how Grace feels. I was very shocked to hear my sister say that Grace told her that Jack had said that "that Biden really knows his shit," and that he'd feel more comfortable with Biden as president than any of the Republican candidates. Now what ol Jack does in the voting booth only Jack will know for sure, but I think it does point to Joe Biden's potential appeal across the board. And in all fairness to Jack, he's not a dumb redneck, though you might think that if you just met him at a party. He's actually a smart, educated guy with a good job. (To be honest, I forget what he does, but I remember being surprised when I found out. I believe he used to be in the military as well.)

It's just a little anecdotal story I thought I'd share. I didn't post this as any kind of proof of anything. But I'm glad to welcome Grace and Wally on board, and don't mind adding that my sister thinks some of the emails I've been sending Grace on Joe Biden, mainly video clips of a few of his speeches, helped persuade Grace. Go Grace!

1. Indeed, the more one takes the time to listen to Biden
one can come around with the idea that he, more than the rest of them, can win in the GE if he will just have the opportunity to present himself.

This is what he did in the last debate - that caused me to move to his camp.

He does not have many opportunity to talk. As graphs posted here show, it is Clinton, Obama and Edwards. But in the few minutes that he did have he, first, did not gang on Clinton like the others and, two, showed the importance of Pakistan, and this was before the recent events there.

These days we cannot afford not to have a President who is not familiar with foreign policy and Biden is the best we have. Richardson would have been, too, but we lost him on the way from having a great resume to actually talk about why we should select him.

Edwards and Obama, frankly appear too much like McGovern. And we remember how he did in 1972.

5. I agree with you. I think he's the most electable.
Not just because he has the most solid credentials, but because I truly think in a general election he will come across as more presidential and better prepared than Giuliani, Romney, Thompson, or McCain. Frankly, the best match up, in my opinion, would be Biden and McCain. If Americans were really on their game and had their priorities straight, those are the 2 who should be chosen.

7. And it is not enough to "win" this time
It needs to be a landslide to bring about the change that we need. We need a president with a REAL mandate from the American people.

3. Bush 00 & 08 Republican I know likes Biden
and would vote for him over most of the Repubs. He can't stand Clinton because of her triangulating. He is one of those "boots instead of flip flops" types.

24. Geeze,
I did not think there was anyone who still thought that was a secret. Most of us know, and to most of us the whole picture is more important than one bill. Bankruptcy bill or not, Joe Biden is my choice because I trust him; have trusted him many years, and I honestly believe he is the best choice for now and our country's circumstances.

6. Thanks
I love anecdotal posts. It is always interesting to see how people come to their decisions, especially from those who don't generally follow politics. It gives a bigger overview of the country than we get here at DU.

8. Yes, Grace, Wally, and Jack are typical Americans.
Perhaps a little better informed on the political front than average, but they don't dwell on it like I, er...I mean, like some people do.

17. Swinging Republicans to vote Democratic is great!
There's no doubt Joe Biden has done a lot for this country. However, you may want to GOOGLE the following and pass it on. BIDEN 2005 BANKRUPTCY BILL

19. Hi and welcome to DU!
You probably haven't been here long enough to know there are hundreds of threads devoted solely to the bankruptcy bill. It's all been said, it's been hashed over, debated and re-hashed over. You wouldn't be telling anybody anything they don't already know and you wouldn't be changing anybody's mind. Just thought I'd let you know so you don't waste your energy, but if you're so inclined, have at it.

You've come to a great place - we're glad you're here! :hi:

22. I get this all the time... Tell me more about Joe?
so I start off dispelling the bankruptcy bill thing. and continue on with his knowledge concerning international affairs. including the recent calls by Bhutto and Musharrif.

The hilary people realize this and tell their supporters to ignore any debate, or discussion. I am glad some Americans are not lemmings and see this tactic of insulating her supporters as a RED FLAG.

23. You know, if the bankruptcy bill is a number one
priority for some people, then they should vote for someone else. I'm encountered quite a few "one issue" people here and they often overlook the big picture. I'm trying to view each candidate as a whole, balancing the pros and cons. What is important is that the next president is the most qualified to clean up the mess Bush will leave behind. This will take a person with experience, intelligence, and judgment.
