Romney's spending on TV ads breaks record
Edited on Tue Nov-13-07 03:40 PM by DeepModem Mom
CNN: November 13, 2007
Romney spending $85K a day on TV ads

WASHINGTON (CNN) – Republican presidential hopeful Mitt Romney has spent $10.2 million on television advertising this year, a record amount at this point in a presidential campaign, according to new data provided to CNN.

He is spending more than $85,000 a day — $600,000 last week alone — on campaign commercials, according to TNSMI/Campaign Media Analysis Group, CNN’s consultant on political television advertising spending. Romney’s presidential campaign commercials have aired more than 14,500 times. The closest Republican to Romney in ad spending is Arizona Sen. John McCain, who has aired more than $300,000 worth of campaign ads.

In the race for the Democratic presidential nomination, Illinois Sen. Barack Obama is leading the way with about $3.9 million spent on campaign commercials.

“Advertising is still by and large a one man band, with Romney leading the way with his record pace,” said Evan Tracey, CMAG’s chief operating officer....

3. Well, it got him first place in IA, NH, and close to first in SC, so I'd say
it's doing him pretty good.

2. This is the most astounding vanity campaign I've ever seen.
The guy has no chance of even being considered yet he pisses away a kings ransom on TV time just to get his mannequin face into your house. He might as well start his own film studio & play the leading man in all the movies.

4. I'm baffled by your assessment. He's probably the most qualified on the R side, and
possibly more qualified than our nominees in terms of experience--it's a mistake not to take this asshole seriously.

7. The national polls put him behind McCain in the back of the pack.

He's pissed through millions in Iowa, but there's a brick wall beyond that. The press ignores him, no matter what he does the only news about him is how much money he spends on himself because of his lack of support from elsewhere. He can't even buy an endorsement from guys like Robertson. He's wasting his time & money.

8. Romney has double digit or near double digit leads in IA & NH.
He also polls well in SC finishing 1st or 2nd.

He has also overtaken Thompson to slide in behind Rudy in quite a few other early state polls.

He is not to be underestimated even though he can be quite the gaffe machine.

9. He'll get trounced by Rudy in the big states where he can't
outspend the others. The real money is with Rudy on this thing.

10. While I agree Rudy is the odds on favorite, Romney has a case to make in terms of viability.
The thing with Mittens is he can outspend anyone anywhere.

11. I agree that it will come down to Mittens and Rudy, and that Rudy has
the advantage on Super Tuesday, although Mittens will be competetive, dollar-wise. It all depends on how much of a bounce and national momentum he gets out of the early states. If Huckabee comes too close a second in Iowa, Mittens may not do as well in NH, and may lose some momentum to Rudy after that. But he's in it for the long haul. He's certainly beatable in the GE: not charming, flippy-floppy, etc--but never underestimate a guy with ruthless determination and a knack for methodical organization.

5. I love it when super rich creeps,
spend tons of their own money and get them nowhere. Too bad it would not cause them to have to tighten their belts.
