Denny Hastert to quit today @ 2:30 PM EST ... Hmmmmmmm?

Abramoff? Cunningham/Wilkes?

I will never forget that Hastert would not come to the front of the House to hand his gavel
over to Nancy Pelosi.

http://www.cbsnews.com/stories/2007/11/15/politics/politico/thecrypt/main3504195.shtml

(The Politico) Former Speaker Dennis Hastert (R-Ill.) will announce on Thursday that he is retiring from Congress soon, although the exact date of his departure is still unclear, according to House insiders.

Hastert is expected to tell the House Republican Conference of his decision on Thursday afternoon, and then make his final floor speech sometime after that.

snip

The 65-year-old Hastert was first elected to the House in 1986, and he served as a top lieutenant to former House Majority Leader Tom DeLay (R-Texas) before being vaulted to the speaker's chair in Dec. 1998 following the resignation of former Speaker Newt Gingrich (R-Ga.) and the political implosion of Rep. Bob Livingston's (R-La.) political career over infidelity allegations.

Update - CNN is also reporting that Hastert will make his resignation announcement on Thursday. According to CNN, "Speaker Nancy Pelosi's office provided the floor time to the former speaker to address his colleagues."

2. Or perhaps a land scandal about to break?
Didn't Hastert buy land that was later developed, thereby raising its value substantially?

5. I don't believe it's been developed yet but it's >
probably not long off. As I recall it's land north of his district (which is in the far, far west Chicago suburbs) that the state would have to buy in order to put in a north-south expressway.

17. Maybe something to do with Sibel Edmonds?
He was mentioned in some rumors concerning what Sibel Edmonds can't say. Something about some bribes. It's a long shot I know.
His whole departure has been wierd, really wierd. My real guess would be some kind of sex scandal. Oh pah-uke.

My guess is that he wanted to start his thanksgiving meal a week early. I feel so sorry for turkeys, duck, geese and cornish hens in his area.

8. Quite a bit of wailing and gnashing etc. going on at our house over Hastert's
not leaving earlier.

Not as vile as DeLay, but definitely a huge minus in a constitutional republic.

Good riddance.

11. Monster GOP Intel Scandal: Abramoff Hastert Cunningham Foggo Nye GOP money scandals tied together
Edited on Thu Nov-15-07 10:55 AM by leveymg
The GOP Congressional leadership and the Bush White House are all tied to several overlapping foreign-financed political influence buying operations. The primary money source is the Saudis, who since 1976 have been funneling funds for illegal covert operations and domestic political dirty tricks to the rogue wing of the G.W. Bush wing of the CIA. There are several other foreign powers involved, including Israel, Turkey, Russia, and China. A group of corrupt defense and intelligence contractors are also part of this.

This is all about the attempted takeover of American politics. Since mid-2003, the loyal side of the American intelligence establishment has been fighting back. Hastert's resignation (indictment pending) is another victory. See,

15. My Fav ancilary story was "The Lincoln Group"
The Lincoln Group was located next door to to AEI/PNAC and got the
contract to "buy news" in Iraq and with their new young head getting
millions in a contract from the DoD and then plowing much of that
money back into republican political operations.

The entire crew seems to be up-and-coming disinformation elite. Note, particularly, the connections to Rendon Group and CENTCOM. See, http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lincoln_Group

19. A fellow called Christian Bailey ... real strange background
The size of the contratcts were huge.

It looks like "The Lincoln Group" not only was into propaganda
but was a very efficient little money laundering operation. Tax Money
goes to the DoD, the DoD gives a contract to "The Lincoln Group,"
to buy news (aka propaganda), and then people in the Lincoln group
give big hunks back to various republican operations.

21. Looks to me like they've leveraged their gov't contracts into a hedge fund
which is acquiring the infrastructure and personnel for a small, private intelligence and neocon political covert ops agency. I'm thinking, a mini-Carlyle Group sans Cerberus-Gabriel. See, http://www.sourcewatch.org/index.php?title=Lincoln_Asset_Management_Group

Personnel
Christian Bailey, Director of Portfolio and Risk Management
Darren William Fancher, Director of Operations
Nicholas McDowell, Director of Research and Technology
About
"In the Nov. 15, 2002, issue of HedgeWorld Daily News, Bailey was identified as the founder and chairman of a New York-based hedge fund called Lincoln Asset Management. On March 1, 2003, the Alternative Investment News reported that Lincoln Asset Management had an initial $100 million in commitments to underwrite a leveraged buyout fund to acquire defense and intelligence companies," according to GovExec.com, December 1, 2005.

"Lincoln appears to have maintained a business address at 1130 17th St. NW in Washington, and shared phone and fax numbers with Omnicept, a firm located at the time at 1432 T St. NW," GovExec.com wrote. "Omnicept described itself as an 'advanced information technology and systems design firm' and 'analytic and intelligence firm' comprising 'experts whose experience encompasses military intelligence, education and academia, big business, money managers, political activists, law enforcement, entrepreneurs, artists, and more.'"

Additionally, GovExec.com reported, "Paige Craig was listed at the same phone numbers as Omnicept's September 2003 point of contact for Internet solicitations for interns. He also represented Lincoln as vice president at the Iraq Coalition Provisional Authority's Nov. 19, 2003, Industry Day in Crystal City, Va. According to phone records, the T Street address was a residence with listings for Bailey and Craig."

25. Looks like two side-by-side office bldgs across 17th from the National Geographic Society
These are generic Washington buildings that house a variety of nonprofits, law offices, lobbying groups, etc. I'm not sure that anything significant should be read into their physical proximity. But, who knows?

I would say, nonetheless, that these people lunch with each other fairly frequently.

At the start of the 109th Congress he was no longer in the GOP leadership, Boehner handing Pelosi the gavel was proper procedure.
