Dems Set To Kill Feinstein Censure Resolution

California Sen. Dianne Feinstein and the state's Democratic Party pushed back Wednesday against a proposal by a coalition of progressives to censure the four-term senator for her recent votes siding with the Bush Administration, dismissing the proposal as a distraction put forth by activists who did not speak for the majority of Democrats in the Golden State. Feinstein's office defended what they called her record of standing up to Bush, citing her role in recent probes into allegations of partisan firing at the Justice Department, as well as her votes against the Supreme Court nominations of Chief Justice John Roberts and Samuel Alito.

"She led the Judiciary Committee investigation into Alberto Gonzales and the firing of the U.S Attorneys," said Feinstein spokesman Scott Gerber. "What Sen. Feinstein is going to continue to do is fight for this issues that are important for all Californians."

On Monday, a coalition of progressive Democrats said they would ask the California Democratic Party to censure Feinstein at its executive board meeting this weekend, citing her recent votes in favor of confirming Attorney General Michael Mukasey and controversial appeals court judge Leslie Southwick.

They argued that in backing the Bush Administration's nominees, Feinstein had lost touch with the core principles of her party's base. State party insiders Wednesday predicted the censure resolution would almost certainly be swiftly defeated when the party gathers in Anaheim, outside Los Angeles. They said its supporters made up a small minority of Democrats with a big bullhorn, and dismissed the censure as a mere distraction for party members focusing on recapturing the White House in 2008. "It is going to be thrown out and rejected," said Bob Mulholland, a veteran party strategist in Sacramento. "Sometimes people can't anticipate or can't understand the big picture."

17. That first paragraph describes exactly........
how the DLC types view...us. They think we're stupid because we disagree with them. These "big picture" geniuses are the people who stood by while Bush was appointed to the presidency, bought his Iraq War con, etc. etc. All this while we could clearly see the writing on the wall.

I don't think it's us who don't see the big picture.

7. Thanks for the link!
My comments (just sent them):

I understand the big picture quite well, thank you very much. I think it is you who are inside that picture who fail to see it clearly.
In brief: the Amercian people gave the Democrats a majority for CHANGE. We did not put you in power so that you can gain more power, we did it so you would change things. Instead, you are focused on increasing your power, turning your backs on the mission with which we entrusted you.

And what do we get when we call you on it? Insulted. Ever wonder WHY so many of us have become independents? You probably have no clue, because you are stuck in that big picture.

At least we made Gerber have to defend her.

8. I say launch a ballot initiative via the net for a vote of no confidence. That way

Californians who care about the constitution, who care about the rule of law, can down load the imitative, print it out, get it filled with signatures from family and friends and neighbors, and mail it in to a central location.

I think it's the Dem hierarchy who may be missing the big picture here. While I didn't expect them to gleefully pass the resolution at the party convention, I would have hoped that they would at least give ot some consideration and allow some discussion about the string of very undemocratic votes that Feinstein has been casting.

10. Do you ever get the feeling
that a split in the party is coming? How can the power brokers be so much at odds with the people who elected them and gave them the power in the first place? Damn! Is anyone listening to us out here? Anyone???

DiFi looks like the heavy-drinking version of Lorraine McFly from Back To The Future.

13. Democracy now reported, (Amy Goodman)
that Di Fi was going to vote no on holding telecom officials liable that enabled the Bu$h admin on wire tapping. Can we censure her now, are do they have to wait for her to vote?

Peace!
