Republicans Vote To Cut Off Funding For Our Troops(!)
Edited on Thu Nov-15-07 04:13 PM by ihavenobias
(This is a must read, trust me)

"I supported our original mission, which was humanitarian in nature and limited in scope. I can no longer support a continued United States presence ... because the nature of the mission is now unrealistic and because the scope of our mission is now limitless. . . Mr. President, it is no small feat for a superpower to accept setback on the world stage, but a step backward is sometimes the wisest course. I believe that withdrawal is now the more prudent option."
-- Senator Kay Bailey Hutchinson (R-TX)

"I cannot support a failed foreign policy. History teaches us that it is often easier to make war than peace. This administration is just learning that lesson right now. The President began this mission with very vague objectives and lots of unanswered questions. A month later, these questions are still unanswered. There are no clarified rules of engagement. There is no timetable. There is no legitimate definition of victory. There is no contingency plan for mission creep. There is no clear funding program. There is no agenda to bolster our over-extended military. There is no explanation defining what vital national interests are at stake. There was no strategic plan for war when the President started this thing, and there still is no plan today"
--Former Representative Tom DeLay (R-TX)

Even President Bush agrees:

"I think it's also important for the president to lay out a timetable as to how long they will be involved and when they will be withdrawn."
--George W. Bush

1. Why not
Edited on Thu Nov-15-07 03:36 PM by demnan
they voted not to table impeachment last week. Expect anything.

On edit, I see now this is the Kosovo thing. Yes that was well known. The Republicans tended to vote to limit Executive power back then.

4. Well known?
I can't say I ever hear it discussed (if ever, and certainly not in this particular context) to be honest, although I suppose in some circles it might be well known, relatively speaking.

At any rate, it's a powerful piece in my opinion.

6. I wouldn't believe KBH if she told me Tom Delay was a self-serving crook
The only reason I see for that statement is a CYA move. They've got to know, unless they're totally delusional, that a huge majority of the country is against them. Thom Hartmann and others have been saying for years that national level republicans would try and divorce themselves from this misadministration to have a chance for re-election.

2. Of course. It's all a partisan game for them. The GOP as a party has absolutely
no moral center--none.

5. Oh please Kay share with us what your internal polls are telling you all
That bush sucks but he'll be gone to Paraguay and you and the rest of the gop thugs in washington will be left holding the diaper. It should be a great going away party when dubya flushes ya'll. And there is no doubt in my military mind that he won't give one rat fuck for you or any other of his enablers.
