Iowa Caucus: Clinton 29% Edwards 25% Obama 24%

Senator Hillary Clinton's lead in Iowa has fallen seven points over the past few weeks. This is consistent with the six-point slide measured in New Hampshire.

The latest Rasmussen Reports poll of the Iowa Democratic Caucus for 2008 finds Clinton on top with support from 29% of Likely Caucus Participants. That's down from 33% in mid-October.

Former North Carolina Senator John Edwards is supported by 25% and Illinois Senator Barack Obama attracts 24% of the Likely Caucus participants. For both men, those figures reflect a three-percentage point gain. New Mexico Governor Bill Richardson also gained three points and is now at 10% in the poll.

2. Obama and Edwards are gradually closing the gap. It's going

to be a very close election in Iowa, and Hillary must be getting VERY nervous right about now. If she doesn't win New Hampshire outright it might be all over for her before it's begun. Since Obama is from Illinois and Edwards from the south, she would be expected to do very well in NH, and anything less would be a serious blow to her candidacy.

4. At around this time of Fall in 04 there were conversations around the state

in which party activists wondered what happened to the Kerry campaign, only to watch Dean overtake Gephardt that year, then Kerry and Edwards overtake voth Gephardt and Dean.

It gets wild out there in the Hawkeye State. The crops come in. The temperature drops. The campaigns jostle. And the people vote.

I really have no idea in hell how it's going to turn out.
