Poll question: If Democrats don't make an impeachment attempt before Bush is gone, how upset will you be?
If the rest of our Party doesn't join in with Kucinich to TRY to see that Bush and Cheney are held accountable for their crimes before they're out of office and off the hook, it will be so hard for me to forgive them for it, although I will always be grateful to Kucinich for trying.

Long live one of the ONLY Democrats with any guts and sense of conviction, Dennis Kucinich. Let's hope that future generations of Democrats are just like him, only with at least one of them a little bit taller so that the next "Kucinich" can get elected President in a country where being tall is more important than being right.

1. I am already resigned to the fact our leaders have no stomach for a fight.
Even the French would be embarrased at how easy they roll over.

2. I think there are reasons.
Someone posted within the past couple of days that all the mechanisms are in place for george to declare martial law on almost any whim, and it could be that this was threatened if the Dems try to impeach.

I have no doubt there could well be some kind of threat or blackmail in place to prevent impeachment. Thus, if they don't try it before this administration ends its term, I'll be disappointed but not upset.

What I DO expect is that a Democratic President and Congress will pursue criminal prosecution once these neocon terrorists are out of office -- and hunt them down wherever they try to escape to, Paraguay included.

4. No money for the national party aparatus.
Either the DNC or the Senate or the House campaign committees. Period.

And it's really close to ever.

I'll give my money to people who will stand up for the Constitution, beginning with Dennis Kucinich!

Go Dennis! :woohoo:

5. Good choice. To put party before the constitution, freedom,
and the country is to be the same as a republican. Dennis is a patriot.

6. Actually, today I was just thinking about the IMMEDIATE need for impeachment ---
even if only to save our Treasury --- !!!

Shouldn't bankrupting the Treasury be considered treason???

Another year of this --- ???

REALLY--- ????

7. There will be no successful impeachment.
Edited on Mon Nov-19-07 09:26 PM by Ytzak
The Republicans will never turn on Bush, no matter what charges were brought and how good the proof is.

Knowing that no impeachment will be successful in this partisan climate, what do we win by pursuing impeachment at a goal?

Will it help elect demcrats in 2008?

Will it improve our shattering economy?

Will it bring the nation together?

I see all those answers as a resounding NO.

But, I'm interested, what would Democrats, the US, and the progressive left get from an attempted impeachment?

9. Not trying is worse than sitting there watching Bush & Cheney screw us over
Edited on Mon Nov-19-07 09:42 PM by mtnsnake
Will it bring the nation together?

WTF? This nation has been so divided by fucking Bush and Cheney that it will take decades, IF EVER, to come together. An impeachment attempt is necessary just to show the goddamn neocons that we will never sit there idly and take their shit again without holding the criminals accountable. For all you know, the country would probably unite behind us if we showed the guts to impeach. BTW, it only takes a one vote majority to impeach, so don't give me that nonsense about the Republicans not supporting it (we already know that) because we've got enough Democrats in the House to initiate an impeachment movement, even though it would be tough to go through and conviction would be improbable. IMO, impeachment is a must if Democrats are ever to have any form of respect again.

15. Can Democrats govern if they don't impeach?
Where as I agree that it is the right thing to do. I long ago got past pushing for victories whose only result was the same I would get from pissing my pants in a dark suit.

Attempting impeachment may feel good, but nobody will notice.

17. FANTASTIC!! You were so right. Everyone should watch this. It is long but SUPERB. Thank you!!
"We have a Congress that is basically an invertebrate"

"I am saying, we have a media problem as well"

"Nancy Pelosi is disregarding her oath of office"

So many great things those men have to say. What a pleasure it was for me to sit there, listen to these highly intelligent people discuss this, and get educated about this in aspects I wasn't aware of. If you haven't started a thread about this video yet, please do so ASAP. I listened to Part 1 and am so looking forward to listening to Part 2. Even though it is long, I was not bored for a second. Thanks again, rgbecker!

21. Other: Prosecute them AFTER they leave office and have little or no claim to executive privilege
Impeachment is not the only path to justice. Why can't more people see that?
