Nobody's playing cards
One of the most overused phrases in the media and here on DU is "playing the X card", whether it's gender or race.

I haven't seen any candidate do that. Not every mention of gender or race is "Playing the card".

The term originally meant "to appeal to racists" by a politician. Then, a new meaning was added: for a black person to accuse others of racism to gain some advantage.

There's naturally going to be a lot of discussion of gender and race in this election - but that doesn't mean anybody's "playing cards".

This is serious stuff, not some silly assed game ! Mrs. Obama & Sen. Clinton have stated realities that are very much a part of this society. Like you say, trivializing it is itself demeaning.

3. It seems to be a way
to "threaten" people against ever mentioning race or gender, and both are topics that SHOULD be discussed.
