Edwards is late, students wait

?There?s a lot of kids here who probably don?t care about their education, but they should be in class instead of sitting here wasting time,? she said.

(Snip)

Afterward, Edwards was asked why he made the audience wait nearly an hour. He gave no specific reason. ?We keep a very busy schedule, both here in Iowa and other parts of the country. ? I do everything in my power to make sure we don?t keep people waiting, certainly not any longer than is necessary.?

The reason apparently was not travel-related, because he?d stayed overnight in the Quad Cities the night before, and the noon appearance was his first of the day.

Edwards is regularly late for campaign events. Last week in Dubuque, for example a few dozen union nurses and supporters waited for 45 minutes outside in a cold, damp wind for Edwards to take part in an informational picket near Finley Hospital. An aide said then that the candidate had been spending time with his parents, who were along on the trip.

if he can't be timely to meetings...how is he going to act as president?

I'd like to know the reasons for his tardiness.

6. What is weak about it?
He had been there, in the city the night before, yet made them wait for almost an hour. And this was not the 1st time he made people wait for him.

You may not consider your time valuable, but I do.

I am so glad he is in 3rd place. I hope he stays there.

They love his talk, but don't even realize that he doesn't walk that talk.

For cripe's sake, all they have to do is look at his voting record. (That is, when he showed up to vote.)

14. yeah, it's kind of mind blowing
If he were some sort of televangelist, most here would see right through him, but as he's spewing carefully crafted manipulative political talk instead of carefully crafted manipulative God talk, they adore him. He's simply selling a different sort of salvation, but his sanctimony is just as thick and oily, the humility just as false.

In the 8th grade, some cheap hairstylist gave me a haircut that looked like Hillary's did in the last debate: a part with two huge lumps on either side. When I saw my resulting school picture, I went to a new salon, FAST.

50. It goes to respecting the voters.
If you can't be bothered to actually show up on time--or at least phone ahead--what kind of respect do you have for the people whose votes you're asking for?

And will it change if he gets the votes? Or will he just assume that if you disrespect people and they vote for you, you can keep on doing it?

I don't have a candidate. I don't see a point in having a favorite until shortly before voting, and that's a long way off. It makes it simpler: I don't have to worry about defending this kind of behavior, or thinking that if I let "my" candidate get smeared with something that's true it reflects on me. It takes more to switch candidates than it would to simply choose the "new" candidate in the first place, because I would have an emotional investmnet in "my" horse, and that means instead of going with the candidate that I might think is best, I go with the one that services my emotional need to not admit I was wrong. Instead I keep track of things like this, and when the time comes to choose a candidate, I remember them.

This is the second serious ding against Edwards on character. The first was when there was a reporter on a train that wanted to talk to his son; Edward's family was along for the ride. The son didn't want to give the interview. After a good stern talking to out of earshot "behind the woodshed", the kid suddenly wanted to talk to the reporter and say all kinds of wonderful things about his father and the trip. The kid was there as a prop. I believe in having obedient kids, but I also believe in respecting kids. And there's the "r" word again.

15. Maybe something personal came up.
Maybe Elizabeth or one of the kids wasn't feeling well. I don't know if they were there with him, but maybe he was dealing with that, or talking to them on the phone. Who the hell knows? Why is this even important. Annoying to those who have to wait, but hardly earth-shattering, or proof that he doesn't care.

Since being on time matters so much, let's change the law so that Bush can get re-elected. Then you'd be happy. :sarcasm:

Y'know, when tardiness and haircuts are the worst scandals that opponents can dig up, it kind of tells you that the candidate in question must be pretty good.

31. Has anyone been to a campaign event?
I've been to several and each and every time, the candidate was late from a range of twenty minutes to an hour and a half.

I helped organize an event for Ned Lamont last year, towards the end of the campaign. We were all waiting for Ned Lamont to arrive in his "Stand up for Change" bus in beginning of November. He was forty-five minutes late, but all of us had a grand time chanting and praising Ned Lamont. It didn't even feel like forty-five minutes had passed when he arrived.

This is another non-issue, directed at Edwards unfairly.

32. If you think his tardiness on the trail means he'll be late launching the nuclear bombs...
Then you should really get a life. Politicians are late --if this is a disqualifier, then I guess you're stuck with George W. Bush who is compulsive about being on time, in contrast, President Clinton was usually late.

Turns out being tardy had nothing to do with who was the better president.

And I say this as a Hillary supporter.

Your post is ridiculous. If you want to complain about him being late, fine, go for it, but to say it means he can't be a good president (or suggest that) is so ludicrous.

Hell, the only concert that I attended that started anywhere near on time was Bruce Springsteen's and it being on time didn't make him a better or worse musician. And while we are on it, think about the whole "concert" idea and why it is that they don't start on time.

Now do you understand something about running for President? Hmmm?

While I was in Reno Nv last Sunday to volunteer for an Edwards Town Hall, three little old ladies came up to me as I was signing people up and told me Hillary was a no show for a meeting in Reno or Saturday. No one called to tell them she was not going to be there, no one e-mailed these poor little old ladies. They just showed up, and... no candidate. Which is worse, being late, or not showing up at all? We might say the same thing about changing views, with changing information.
