Edwards cancels TV appearance, citing strike
John Edwards said today that he will cancel a television appearance next week because of the writers' strike and also won't cross a picket line next month to participate in a presidential debate.

Edwards, who is seeking the Democratic nomination for president, was scheduled to appear next week on "The View" with his wife, Elizabeth, his campaign said. But he said in a statement they will instead honor the strike by the Writers Guild of America.

He said he also would honor any picket lines at CBS News, up to and including the presidential debate Dec. 10. The debate is scheduled to take place in Los Angeles.

"As I said when I walked the WGA picket line in California last Friday, these workers are making a simple request for their fair share of the huge profits being made by multinational media corporations," Edwards said in the statement.

1. Edwards follows Clinton's lead (22 minutes after her announcement)...

...and says he won't cross the picket lines either. Good move by Clinton. Now let's see who else joins her.

edit: Another post cites MSNBC First Read and had the "22 minutes later" fact, and has also confirmed that Obama is now on board with Clinton, too.

5. Damned if he does, damned if he doesn't
you would say something negative about him no matter what he did on this issue. You are transparant as glass.

7. Beaver, you say I'm "transparent" like it's a bad thing.
I say what I mean, and mean what I say. No weasel words from me.
If by "transparent" you mean "it's obvious you do not support Edwards in the primary" you're absolutely right.
I have also said I'd vote for him were he our nominee.
And I have posted here that I really liked that line of his that went something like:
"It's about time Americans were patriotic about something other than war."
Heck, he's not even last on my list. Gravel is second to last, Obama brings up the rear.
So anyhoo, if that makes me transparent in some "negative" way in your eyes, sorry you see it that way.

And did you see him walking the picket line with the writers just a couple of days ago?

Working people all over America are finding out Edwards is the real deal.

2. He's playing with fire
Maybe he knows that the strike will be over by 12/10. It would be a fatal error to miss the debate.

4. All 3 top Dems have said they will not debate if the CBS strike is still on.
How is that playing with fire? Edwards is being consistnat in his union support. He can't cross a picket line. I do not think the debates will be held.

8. I didn't know that when I posted it.
It reminds me of Hillary saying she won't campaign in Michigan if they move their primary up. Michigan moved it and Hillary is still going to campaign there.

3. This is strange to me.
Edited on Wed Nov-21-07 03:02 PM by boloboffin
I didn't realize that "The View" was under the same deal as the writers that are striking.

Don't get me wrong! I absolutely support the writers here. As Sally Field said yesterday, the writers are being excluded from the future of the industry. Their demands are reasonable and they should be met.

But I just don't see how Edwards not appearing on national television really helps the writers. He's running for President. He could speak out in these venues. Strange.

On edit: Well, they're all doing it. Shows how a little seach can educate. I didn't know how bad the CBS writers had it.

Go, Democrats!
