Was Election Day a new day for the Democrats in Northern Kentucky? Did the party, as Democratic state Rep. Dennis Keene of Wilder predicted the Saturday before the Nov. 6 election, open a can of "whup-ass" on the Republicans?

Or was the election, as Northern Kentucky Republicans claim, particularly the gubernatorial race, a vote against Republican Ernie Fletcher rather than a vote for Democrat Steve Beshear?

Actually, it was a little of both.

Heavy anti-Ernie sentiment coupled with a stronger and smarter effort by Democrats and their constituencies - especially organized labor - were the defining factors in the gubernatorial race.

The evidence is stark. Beshear carried Kenton and Campbell counties and nearly won Boone, while other Democrats on the statewide ticket lost Northern Kentucky or, in the case of Attorney General Jack Conway in Campbell County, eked out a tight victory against a lesser-funded candidate.

There are plenty of reasons for Republicans still smarting from Election Day to back away from the ledge. State Auditor Crit Luallen, who is vastly more qualified and experienced than Republican Linda Greenwell, still lost Campbell and Kenton.

FULL story at link.

1. Northern Kentucky is too Cincinnati-ified for its own good.

2. I just read that whole article, and I can't figure out the author's point
The Democrats won--5 of 7 statewide offices--and the Republicans lost, shouldn't the Republicans be the ones doing the Monday morning quarterbacking?
