How do you see the candidates? I'm sure we all see them differently. Anything about one of your favorites that bugs you?

Do as many candidates as you want, but the only stipulation here is that you gotta be just as hard on your own favorite candidate (or candidates) as you are on the others. Feel free to tell me if I'm nuts when it comes to one or more of my observations, too, if you disagree.

Here are mine about each one, in alphabetical order by the candidate's last name:

Biden: I appreciate his humor...when he's on, he's good, but so many other times he often seems like he's way too flippant, like he's not taking it that serious at times. Plus I think he might have been loaded the last debate, not that I object to that!

Clinton: She's often too forced when speaking, kind of robotic. Every time she talks she sounds like she's giving a speech. She also nods her head in affirmative motion even when there is no reason to be doing so. There is no need to nod affirmatively when a debate host is in the middle of asking you something that is obviously intended to be negative about you.

Dodd: His voice and his dialect don't mesh with being a presidential candidate. He sounds more like the local know-it-all at the McDonalds morning coffee gathering than he does as someone who could be president. He's a little on the hyper side, not that that's necessarily a bad thing.

Edwards: He looks perplexed whenever he takes a hit from someone & narrows his eyes when he's upset. That and he blinks his eyes in rapid succession whenever he's caught off guard. He's the fastest blinker I've ever seen.

Kucinich: He's not the most charismatic of candidates, and I feel rotten about saying that, but it's true.

Obama: He was the hardest for me to find a weakness with in his mannerisms, but I'd say he shows his anger more quickly than the others do. He's just not as good as the others are at hiding anger.

Richardson: It just seems so hard for him to get the words out of his mouth when it's his turn to say something. It's like he's holding his breath every time it's his turn to speak, and I worry he's gonna faint one of these times.

18. What you're really telling everyone is you don't have a single original thought to ever contribute
I've never seen you come up with one original post, ever.

Now if you want to agree or disagree with the OP of the thread, be my guest. If you want to talk trash, I'll be glad to oblige you as well.

22. You have not seen my original posts? My reasearch? Maybe you don't pay much attention.
You're not aware that my original posts have lead to the outting of my personal information, smears, legal and other threats by assholes? Gee, I had thought you had read each and every one of my posts over the last three-plus years. You don't know shit about my original posts or their content, obviously.

"If you want to talk trash, I'll be glad to oblige you" You already have spewed your trash in the OP.

31. Feeble attempt at the Valerie Plame routine. That's pathetic how you can make a mockery of her
...and to think you picked a harmless thread like this one to show how bitter you are. I'm not surprised, considering your MO has been to run around bashing HC every chance you get...nothing like picking your spots, eh.

Anyway, there is really no need for you to be so cross? If you can't lighten up, uhh, maybe you should seek some anger management therapy? Hope that helps....

21. And I'll Second It Two Times Over!! But Others People's Views Can Still
be spoken here. Maybe not without severe consequences and vapid visceral reaction, but speak out by all means. Some don't agree and Democrats have lost the sense of Unity I once believed in.

So I say if you can't beat 'em join 'em! The post SUCKS! I've seen concerted efforts by so many to tear candidates to shreds here, which dismays me... but WTF, I placed my bets where I want to and stand by my man!

4. It would be impossible, I don't react to visual cues very well.
What they say and do, who they stand behind, and who stands behind them speaks volumes to me. Much more than the way they look, or sound. There was a time, pre-Regan, where the way you looked counted for nothing. I wish we could get back to those days but I don't see that happening.

And I think, Snake, you know where I stand on the issue of Biden being stoned.

17. Very good point,
The debate, the make-up. Thanks for reminding me my history. Don't you think, because we're discussing this silly topic, that back then that was the exception, rather than the norm?

20. Oh it was definitely the exception back then, which is why it's still discussed today
Edited on Tue Nov-27-07 12:33 AM by Azathoth
I'm a little young to remember the original Nixon/JFK debate vividly, but my point was that things have been gradually trending this way for a while, pretty much since political campaigns made the jump to TV. I guess it was inevitable that a guy like Reagan would eventually come along and encourage/embrace the trend to such an extent that it shifted the entire focus of political campaigning in our country.

Not sure I understand how this furthers the discussion or enhances our choices.

It would be like asking about physical appearance. In that case, I tend to lean towards a dynamic leader with hair-plugs.

15. Too many "ahs" and "ums". It's distracting and frustrating to watch.
Particularly when he's in a debate. But it's not something that can't be easily corrected through practice. That's why I'm glad there are so many Primary debates. Every one of our candidates are already light years ahead of the GOP cavalcade of dimwits as it is.

26. He's also a writer at heart
Writers often don't do "glib" very well. They tend to take it all in and...BOOM, here comes the depth, all well thought out and elegantly worded. It can take them a while to get started, though.

19. Well, I agree with BG (for once)
Obama is a stumbler over words and easily distracted. He often looses his sense of place and goes of on an a nonsensical tangent.

Watching Edwards at the debates with the blinking thing. I imagine he's keeping time with Michael Flatley and "Riverdance" that is, until he screws up his face while promoting himself as "Honest John" twisting his head to the side in an awkward visual of someone sucking on a bouquet of lemons.

Kucinich is the Court Jester continually spiking the dialog with sound bytes of Truisms forcing people to think.

You have Richardson, the Godfather and Total Recall Hillary, dead on..Oops,

Biden, sometimes his thoughts runaway with him when he's unprepared, saying too much of his personal thoughts that afterwards might need clarification as to how they were meant at the time spoken. Otherwise, he is an asset to the Dems.

Dodd, I would designate him as the "barrager"...he is never at a loss for words. If you don't know the answer, he will respond with his own conviction and poignantly damn you if you find it unacceptable. But then reality steps in, he did date Bianca Jagger..Was it "Harmony" or "Match dot com"?

30. obama's quirky mannerism:
the way he speaks. He speaks in cadence as if mimicking someone giving a speech. He talks in threes and ends his words abruptly. It is very annoying to me. It looks as if he is a little kid pretending to be an adult politician.

39. Funny how different people get different impressions.
To me Biden won the last debate precisely because he's the most serious one of the bunch. I mean, yes he'll joke around, but he zeros in on the details of the issues while the others are bantering on like behind the scenes at beauty pagaent. It's become a cliche, but he's the grownup of the group.

And considering he lost a wife and child to a drunk driver, I doubt that he was loaded. His usual foible is that he talks a lot, though he's been making a point of keeping that in check during these debates, which is more than I can say for the 3 front runners, Moe, Larry, and Curlylocks.
