Is Al Gore still supported on this site?

I'm just wondering since many of those who did nothing but post about him when they were begging him to run are silent now. Is his work on this crisis really important here? He is keynoting in Bali in less than two weeks on a crisis that defines this and the next generation. No small potatoes in my view. And he is doing so because this crisis and working to solve it is important whether he runs or not. And it was because of his work in Australia that contributed to the results we saw there this past weekend, which to me only vindicates his own words regarding having power out here regarding influencing events. Not to be antagonistic, but I do think it a shame some people still don't seem to give a damn about all he has done and does unless he "runs." Keynoting in Bali as a Nobel Peace Prize winner, statesman, and ambassador for the planet on this crisis is nothing to sneeze at. I for one am very hopeful we will get more from Bali than just talk and that is mostly because I know Mr. Gore will be an integral part of the process. And even though I may be leaning towards who I will cast a "vote" for in a primary that does nothing to diminish my respect and love for this great man whose work was, is, and always will be an influence in where our future takes us. So if you don't have to see him in that political cesspool to support him and truly understand the important role he will now play in this process and in the future of this planet, a shout out would be nice. This journey is not over, and I for one am grateful he is still leading the way.

If he changes his mind and does declare you'll see this place go crazy - it sure would be the happiest day I've had in a long time.

But outside of the environmental forum, there is very little discussion. Most threads here at DU are about contentious issues.

I join with you in being grateful Gore is out in front leading the way.

Unfortunately there is little discussion here of the climate crisis outside the environmental forum. I would think it would be a part of the discussion regarding other candidates here. I think Al Gore will be leading the way on that as well, and the debate he and Schwarzeneggar are reportedly setting up in NH next month will hopefully turn the tide regarding that.

I just have given up hope about him making a run for President in this election cycle. I do support, and will continue to support, him in whatever he pursues. Saving our environment is of critical importance, and I'm glad we have a strong leader like Gore who is speaking out and trying to make a difference.

The next few years will be make or break regarding implementing solutions to this crisis on a global scale.

Most of the talk these days is about candidates who are actively seeking
the nomination, and Gore has made it rather clear that he is (so far) not
involved in that.

I still have to wonder how many anti-Gore posts would appear if he were to
change his mind, but the clock is ticking, and not in his direction. Sadly,
I do not believe he cares in the slightest. Fortunately, what he IS doing
is for the benefit of us all.

To pervert a phrase, "they also serve who do not necessarily strive for the
Oval Office."

I think he has actually found a brilliant way to influence the political sphere by going around it. If his influence can do here what just happened in Australia, I would then say that most certainly would be for the benefit of us all.

I meant that I thought he didn't care that the clock for entry into the
presidential race was ticking, as his disinterest in participating as a
candidate is genuine. He certainly cares plenty about what he is doing
now--so much so that he is NOT bothered that his pursuit of his current
activities fulfills his ambitions to the point where it leaves no time
for a presidential run, which is filled with so much BS, and is a process
he knows about first hand. Quite simply, he had the option of a second round, and he passed.

I think he is secure in the knowledge that he has set the bar so high for an ex-VP
that Cheney couldn't buy his way into a comparison.

The best thing Cheneybush could do after leaving office would be to go on national TV
and beg forgiveness (à la Jimmy Swaggart) from the citizens of the United States. The
majority would shout their refusal to forgive, but they'd at least see some repentance.

That's about as likely as the ghosts of Jimi Hendrix and Janis Joplin playing a duet at
my daughter's wedding (if she ever has one), but you get my drift.

There were several threads recently about his new position (which I think is probably a very smart move on his part) ~ don't know why you'd think he wasn't supported.

I think since Al Gore deservedly received the Nobel Peace Prize, his recognized gravitas on a global level will afford him the leverage to accomplish the great things he has been advocating.

Politics is a cesspool and I finally see he has transcended that; the only thing I regret is that the judicial coup d'etat in 2000 wasn't rectified.

Gore remains the best of mine in my book.

I would have liked to see him run, but he's got a bigger calling than President, IMO.

However, regardless of how I feel about this crappy system, I will not just sit out voting... so, in order to do that I would need to choose a candidate, no? So what's your point?

Many people care about the issues and carry out the work, even if they don't name Al Gore every time they change a light bulb.
