Hillary -- shakes head "no" while saying yes to supporting the Democratic candidate in 2008
Edited on Tue Nov-27-07 12:55 PM by JDPriestly
Watch the video at the bottom of this Raw Story piece. Very close to the end of the video Katie Couric asks Hillary about what she will do if she is not the Democratic candidate and does not win the Democratic nomination. Hillary says that she will be the candidate AND THEN -- states that she will of course, support the Democratic candidate. Only catch is, she does not nod her head up and down as she usually does when affirming something, rather SHE SHAKES HER HEAD FROM SIDE TO SIDE AS SHE DOES WHEN MOTIONING NO.

Body language experts say this is a sign of conflict or of lying. Look for yourself.

4. Stupidity makes people even stupider
For example, when you label any criticism as hatred just because you don't agree with it.

12. this isn't reasoned criticism
but as you are someone notably infected by hate, you wouldn't be able to distinguish between meaningful criticism and absurd nitpicking.

44. Ironic that you judge what is reasoned, since so many of your posts are baseless attacks
If you want to have a reasoned discussion, maybe you should start by providing reasoned responses. I don't really agree with the OP's premise, nor to I care that much about it.

But if it really bothered me, I would at least do the rest of the readers the courtesy of providing a thoughtful response. If you can't do that, perhaps it's best to say nothing.

She is lying. Love blinds. Hillary fans are so caught up in what they think
she is, what they want her to be, that they cannot see the glaring faults in her personality and her candidacy. And, yes, politics is about people. It's about the personal flaws. So don't begin that stupid talk about cut the personal attacks. Politics is personal. Every politician has personal flaws. Hillary is too sensitive about these things. She bristles too easily.

We need a politician who is less self-centered. One of Bush's biggest faults is his self-centeredness. He thinks the world revolves around him and his thoughts and feelings. Hillary is by no means as extreme as Bush in this respect, but with regard to the nomination, she is overly self-centered. She will be bad, bad, bad for America.

20. except I'm not a HIllary fan. In fact, I just got off a pro-Hillary thread
where I criticized her supporters for knocking other candidates.

They're all flawed. I think Edwards bristled too easily when Dennis caught him off guard. It's just not meaningful. And she doesn't strike me as being any more or less self-centered than any other candidate. Hell, Dennis won't commit to supporting the dem candidate.

I can see plenty of faults in Clinton, and they have more to do with substantive things- like fundraising, straddling positions and voting for K/L.

66. Hillary came off as self-centered as ever. But instead of leaving it there, she blew it again.
She says she'll support whoever the Dem nominee is. Seconds before she said it WILL be her and only her. Just like in the Philly debate: "it makes sense" and then saying she didn't say it just seconds later. Hillary is a lame national candidate. She has massive flaws in personality that will make her unelectable next year.

Actually, it's more a sign of...
her trying to stay positive. The minute anyone starts to have negative thoughts, on anything, is the minute they set into motion the "what you fear, you draw near" factor. It's been proven over, and over, that people with positive attitudes are far more successful in life. I don't think she is being arrogant, just trying to stay focused, and positive. Nothing wrong with that in my book. I don't know that I am as confident about her as I use to be, but time will tell.

23. Me too.
And I will not be shut up about it by intimidating posts. I do not feel that way about any other Democratic candidate. I like them all. So I'm not criticizing Hillary to boost another candidate. I just think she is an awful choice. I'm a pretty normal person. I usually like everyone. I just have this creepy feeling about Hillary. She will be yet another blow to our country. We have a number of other great possibilities for president. And the more I watch and listen to Hillary, the less I like her. She is another Maggie Thatcher. She is too bitter, too phony. She is just not an integrated personality. We see a veneer, not a real person. Hillary hides the real person -- but she is not much of an actor.

Watch how Edwards or Obama take criticism. They acknowledge the right of the person criticizing them to speak out. Then watch Hillary -- You would think the person criticizing her was some sort of ant that she could smash with her foot with impunity. Hillary is arrogant and cannot take criticism. That is a terrible combination.

And as for supporting the Democratic nominee if it is not herself -- Hillary will say she will, but when it comes down to it she will do everything she can to get revenge should anyone else get the nomination.

As for Hillary's reasons for wanting so badly to be president, I have huge questions. Is it just to show Bill she is as good as he is? I've wondered about that.

I don't think Hillary wants to be president because she wants to help Americans really. She seems to borrow most over her policy proposals from other candidates -- or the Republican Party. I wonder if she is going to play Republican-lite some more and just let her corporate donors draft legislation for her once she is elected.

39. It's not just about her wanting to "get revenge".
She wants this so badly, that I think she would willingly sabotage the Dem nominee so that she could run again in '12. By '16, she'd no longer be viable, and if there was a Dem incumbent for 8 years the natural choice for '16 would be that person's VP - so to get the top seat herself she either would need to be that VP (and who would choose her?) or she'd need to run again in '12.

So, yes, I think she WAS lying about supporting another nominee.

10. She also shakes her head when she says she gets up every morning
Obviously she's lying because she'a a vampire and she sleeps during the day.

Here ya go...if HRC doesn't get the nomination and doesn't endorse the Democratic candidate, I'll donate $1000 to DU if you'll pledge to donate $10 if she does endorse the candidate.

96. Endorse does not equal 'support'.
All the dems endorsed Kerry in 04, after he got the nomination, but a great many contributed to the undermining of his election bid. They didn't want him in for 8 years, cuz that would screw with the plans they had for their own DLC candidate.

Not naming names. You know who she is.

95. No shit! All they have to do is go back to 2002 to see who Clinton...
is. Why did she ignore the fact that there was no evidence for a war and spew propaganda about Saddam, Iraq and Al Queida like Bush did instead of being honest about the facts and protecting thousands of lives. For some reason her agenda must have matched Bush and Cheneys because she followed their lead on the illegal war and then voted yes every time. If people would ignore the bullshit they hear and look at the candidates ACTIONS not their WORDS, maybe our children and our country's future would be in better shape. Too bad there arent enough people that actually care to see the truth for what it is and have decided to support a candidate that has some other agenda at the top of their priority list.

15. Yeah but sometimes she nods "yes" when someone is leveling something negative towards her, too
so it's not like you can assume her head shaking one way or the other is relative to the current conversation she's involved in. It's just a quirky thing she does, and I even pointed this out in a thread last night, although a couple lame disruptors tried to crash that thread because they couldn't stomach any criticisms of personality traits of any of our candidates.

denying something. Watch the whole video. This is nuts.

What body language expert (Is there even such a discipline?) said this was a sign of conflict or lying? Link please.

30. It is not an accurate observation, though because she moves her head like that all the time
in the rest of the video, regardless of whether she is being positive or negative. I think it is very bogus. Who naturally bobs their head up and down anyway while they are talking? - most people move their heads more or less side to side as they talk in an animated way.

97. That is SO not true.
The study of body language has been a part of psychology courses for decades, and there ARE experts out there. It is well enough defined that diplomats are briefed on intracacies of body language to prevent inadvertant insults or misunderstandings in dealing with other cultures -in the Balkans and Greece, for example, shaking the head is affirmative, not negative. This would only need to be pointed out if the known norm in America is the opposite. Nodding while saying 'no', or shaking the head while saying 'yes' usually indicates the opposite of the words because the body motion is unconscious, while language is conscious expression -- IOW, words may lie but the body tells the truth.

Did you sleep through Psyche 101?

42. exactly - that was my impression also after watching the whole video.
It was her natural head movement while talking which for most people is more side to side than up and down. In fact, if somebody did move their head up and down every time they were affirming something we would likely think it a little weird.

This reads to me more as Hillary finding Katie Couric to be annoyingly stupid in her questioning.

And then she said "I'll support whoever the Dem nominee is" The "whoever" being: HER AND ONLY HER.

Even when she's being arrogant, she has to waffle. I broke out laughing, when I saw the CBS News interview live.

This is what you guys are reduced to? An interpretation of someone shaking her head?

I'm thinking her 'lesbian-affair-with-staffer' didn't work out too well, so you guys though "hey! maybe we can make people think her vocal and body language disagree to the point of invalidating her run for the presidency!!! Great idea! This'll be the bestest idea yet!!!"

C'mon-- you guys are letting me down. While great on the Imaginative Scale, it's pretty far down on the Plausibility Scale. And you need high ratings in both.

98. She is also shaking her head at a number of other points.
"We all have universal health care, except Senator Obama"

That is a LIE - she has universal health insurance, in the hands of the insurance industry. That is NOT universal health care.

"I wish this campaign would allow us to compare health care plans."

Shaking her head there, too, because she does not have a health care plan. She doesn't want any head to head comparison, because hers is a giveaway to the insurance industry and she knows it.

"I've never considered it" (not getting the nomination)

Shaking her head there, because it is a clearly negative statement and, when stating a negative, that is the appropriate response.

Those who are saying "she was moving her head all the time" can't seem to consider that she was LYING through most the interview.
