Hillary Clinton plans to use Colin Powell to restore Americas Image?
Edited on Tue Nov-27-07 01:38 PM by bunnies
Are you kidding me?

SPARTANBURG, S.C. — Hillary Clinton said Tuesday that if elected U.S. president she would call on former Secretary of State Colin Powell as part of a bipartisan diplomatic delegation to be sent abroad to restore America's image.

(snip)

"I won't even wait until I'm inaugurated, but as soon as I'm elected I'm going to be asking distinguished Americans of both parties — people like Colin Powell, for example and others — who can represent our country well, including someone I know very well, " she said smiling while making reference to her husband and former President Bill Clinton. "Because I want to send a message heard across the world. The era of cowboy diplomacy is over."

94. in her reply to my e-mail
Edited on Wed Nov-28-07 12:52 PM by PATRICK
at the time of the vote, Hillary specifically based her vote on trust of what Powell had said, as if in her personal experience of the great man- who undercut and grouched against her husband as a potential rival throughout his administration- there could be no worthier guarantor of the need for war(everyone believes Powell the e-mail seemed to gush). She might as well have been a FOX news reporter. Daftness tends never to learn much less admit such error. Thanks to this untimely gratuitous rush to gush over a prime liar for her disastrous authorization vote she confirms pretty much what she said then.

There is special despair in knowing that innocent lives will be squandered because of that unwavering poor judgment.

35. Sorry, but I just don't believe that
Powell's speech to the UN used information he highly suspected but didn't know for a fact was false. He's regretted it ever since. I sense that Powell is a good man; Powell is not a batshit crazy neocon. He may be a Republic, but he's one of the "good" Republics. Olympia Snowe would be another example of a "good" Republic.

Powell may have lost some credibility after the UN speech, but who knows what he told world leaders he met with afterwards off the record. And, Powell has been nothing but critical of this administration since he left while at the same time maintaining his persona of being the "good and loyal soldier".

I think Powell would do this not just for Hillary, but for just about anyone that was the president. He'd probably turn down Bush.

84. Sorry...
... he lied and he knew there was a high probability that what he was saying was untrue.

You can make all the excuses for him you wish to, but you are not going to fool any of us who were here when all of this stuff went down and who KNEW that these "facts" he was spouting were not true.

In fact, I quit giving money to public radio after 17 years when on one Sunday morning, Powell came on and blathered his load of bullshit for 5 minutes - and then there was no analysis, no counterpoint, no critique, no nothing - just a raving lackey military "shine your shoes sir" jerk saying what he was told to say.

No more credibility for Powell, who had a HISTORIC opportunity to stand up and do the right think and maybe just maybe foil Bush's march to war, but who instead folded like a paper napkin and lied his ass off.

And no more money for NPR. Fuck those liars too.

92. Those of us who witnessed Powells demonstration before
the UN coupled with the facts about Iraq's supposed WMD's should have known that the whole damn thing was a very phony and sloppy presentation. Most people who were really concerned and knowledgable about an Iraq invasion were voicing their concerns, especially in Europe.
Powell has proved himself to be a not so very smart politician and a person who will do anything to further his own ambitions. Research Powell re.Mai Lai.
Hillary Clinton is exhibiting very poor judgement in entertaining using anyone from Bush's administration. No way can I support her and I am not alone.

they have to agree with everything their candidate does, no matter what. That they can't criticize their candidate. Well its rare but I don't agree with Hillary on this and I'm not afraid to say so.

36. Yes he did -- repeatedly
Buy going to the UN and giving that phony report to justify an invasion, he was advocating for cowboy diplomacy.

By echoing and carrying out the claims of the bush administration -- and defending the administration's foreign policy, he was advocating cowboy diplomacy.

By both commission and omission, he was one of the prime enablers of the policies and actions that have caused the damage to America's reputation and actual power in the world.

77. According to Bamford's "The Pretext for War"
Powell was among the people at the table in 1992 when the first version of PNAC was written. Besdes, while he cheerfully takes credit for a policy written by a dozen people, The Powell Doctrine, he never raised an eyebrow as he watched this junta violate all of its principles when invading Iraq. I've come to believe that Powell's touted smarts and abilities are just a myth. WTH is a pro-choice, pro-affirmative action person doing hanging out with a bunch of creeps?

Powell=the values of none.

44. K&R. I will never vote for Hillary.
But I have a hard time believing she would actually send the traitor Powell to restore our image. Incredible.

45. Colin Powell?!? One of the most disgraceful episodes in American History
Some might argue, and I would be one of them, that Powell's Tissue of Lies before the UN can't be grouped in with American History, as Bushes Imperial Amerika has nothing to do with that country, doesn't believe the same things as that country did, and is on the side of dictators and tyrants full and 100% now, whereas Old America at least supported Human Rights with one face while supporting Bushie Vassal Dictators like Marcos and Pinochet with another.

I wonder if this is a Fox Noise Special Lie, though, but if it is true...that's disgusting.

55. Well, that just put her out of the running for me.
Poor judge of character.

With seats on the Supreme Court almost certainly coming up during the next President's term, this kind of...Jesus, what is it exactly?

It just seems scary stupid to let Powell near ANYTHING involving policy or the face we put on American diplomacy.

59. Can someone explain to me why Powell is a go-to guy on ANYTHING?
What has he ever done that was so spectacular that he still has this much reputation and this much credibility, that candidates are still dropping his name? I don't hate the guy, I think he's smart and it's unfortunate that he sullied his own integrity and honor by consorting with BushCo, but--what elevates him to greatness, at this point?

60. SHE'S LOST IT. COLON BOWEL??!! This isn't 1998!!!
Hillary my dear. You still have to win the Democratic nomination don't you???? Many Dems believe Colon Bowel to be the worst SOS next to Condo Rice. Are you out of your mind???

This cinches it. Her campaign doesn't know what the f*** they're doing. She's obviously (and foolishly) running a general election campaign. But here's the instructional part:

If she said it during a general election campaign, that would also be stupid, since Powell has been
discredited among many Independents as well. Many Indeps also feel Powell let them down in the run-up to Iraq.

We go with Hillary at our peril.

I still remember Colin Powell's speech to UN about Iraq's mobile WMD labs. Where was Hillary? Why not invite Donald Rumsfeld and Paul Wolfowitz while we are out?

76. What's next she'll announce that "Dr." Condi Rice is her running mate....
my point is Mr. Powell and Condi both lied and new that they lied, not the bs we here from Colin that he was mis-led. I would be more interested in Mr. Powell being served with a subpoena by the judiciary committee. (Condi would just ignore it...) Both need to serve time!

hanging out with Michael O'Hanlon (Clinton foreign policy advisor and PNAC) and Gen. Jack Keane (AEI and Clinton's military advisor.) Maybe they can go around the world and champion another surge...somewhere...anywhere. Cowboy roundup redux.

81. This is the guy that has warned us of the new terrorism industrial...
complex that will only exist if we are in fear or having attacks. She is the woman that had a fund raiser for the people in the terrorism defense industry so they could have a meet and greet with elected officials that could help their new found business. Just seems strange that they would be teamed up together?

91. Geeze!
I didn't know that. And another block clicks into place.

Matt Stoller just had a diary at Open Left about the woman who is out bundling money for Clinton. It seems that the woman is straight out of the big media pocket, and wants a job.

"Her FCC Chair choice, Ness, is well-liked by broadcasters, a surefire sign of problems. And Clinton's plan for broadband is modeled off of Connect Kentucky, an industry-written plan that defines broadband at 200K, which is 500 times slower than the speed of broadband in Japan. Worse, it excludes net neutrality. And if Clinton has a position on media consolidation, it's not a priority in her campaign. She has been silent on wireless spectrum and won't even give a straight answer on retroactive immunity for telecom companies."

85. AAAAAAAAAAAAAAH!!!!
Splutter, splutter, gasp, thud.

What is the MATTER with this person?!

How dare anyone support her after this abusive bullshit. Let's send William Calley as a goodwill ambassador to Vietnam. Let's trot out Kissinger and prop him up somewhere; he's still got more up his sleeve. Hell, we've already got Negroponte and Abrams back in action, let's give Oliver North a trim and a slight coat of polyurethane and send him off to be Ambassador to Venezuela.

This also reeks of playing the race card in her little minuet with Obama.

The sheer revulsion she brings forth is only slightly buffered by the trust I have in my fellow humans to see this kind of ward-heeling for what it is.

Come on partisans, you're whoppertunists and weasels if you can support her after this; give it your best!

Booooooooooooooo!

Powell ruined his chances at doing any good when he sold out to bush. there is no way to re-assemble humpty-dumpty. or to put it another way, he can't restore his virginity. once it's lost, it's lost.I don't want him representing me in any way.
