27. Given the slams against Hillary Clinton around here...
about her being "centrist" and "right wing", and considering Barbra Streisand is VERY liberal, I'm surprised that people are criticizing Ms. Streisand's endorsement. And Ms. Streisand, period.

They also slammed Rep Lewis, a genuine american hero from the civil rights movement, when he endorsed Hillary.

They have no shame

37. I am NOT criticizing Barbara. All I said basically is that her endorsement "hurts".
She reinforces the "out of touch' image that is foisted on Dem's.Most candidates wouldn't want her endorsement. She is not a political godsend. She provides lots of fodder for the right and wins no points with the "average" American. I am a huge Streisand fan. I have every album from "back in the day, but I know this endorsement won't play in Peoria.Doesn't anyone even remember what happened last time Babs tried to speak out? She was eviscerated and the comedians and RW had a field day!

42. Saracat is correct.
I know nothing of Saracat's other posts or opinions, but to think that Streisand's endorsement is going to somehow help Hillary Clinton is ludicrous. Streisand is one of the right-wing's favorite villains. You can hardly listen to Rush, Hannity, Savage, O'Reilly or any of these other thought providers of the Right without hearing them make Hollywood into some evil Star Wars-like Empire controlling America, with Barbara Streisand prominently declared as one of the worst of them all. If anything, I'd expect Streisand's name to be used as an insult against Hillary from now on. "She's the Streisand Candidate! I told you so!"

You show me how Streisand can help Hillary in Iowa and New Hampshire and I'll show you how Ted Nugent or Mel Gibson would help Giuliani. It only makes the opposition laugh and independents roll their eyes.

50. Out of curiousity, who would be a plus?
See, the reason I ask this is that DU has a pattern for these things so far, and that pattern is that anyone who endorses Hillary Clinton becomes automatically a closet Republican mole, just because they endorsed Hillary Clinton. she's not at all my favorite candidate, but the "anyone who endorses Clinton is now a traitor" attitude gets ridiculous. So I have to wonder if there is anyone with enough stature that they could come out in favor of Clinton and not be branded an enemy of the state.

As fucked up as those values are, the Rethugs know better than to ignore them. Our party, on the other hand, never misses an opportunity to piss on its most loyal supporters. A Hillary nomination will be the last straw for many of us.

Jasmine Guy for Obama: "I see that she has grown up to become a very intelligent woman".

72. Very nice. Babs wrote a beautiful endorsement
"Madame President of the United States...it's an extraordinary thought. We truly are in a momentous time, where a woman's potential has no limitations," said Streisand. "Hillary Clinton has already proven to a generation of women that there are no limits for success. She is driven by her passion for public service and her belief in the enormous potential of our country. Smart, capable and strong in her convictions, Hillary has transcended the dictates of what is thought to be possible for our time.

"Hillary is a powerful voice for change as we find our country at an important crossroads. Under her leadership, our country will regain its respect within the global community. She will prioritize issues of global climate change, universal health care and rebuilding a strong economy. After 8 long years, the public will once again have faith in their government.

"Another former first lady, Eleanor Roosevelt once wrote, 'In government, in business, and in the professions there may be a day when women will be looked upon as persons. We are, however, far from that day as yet.' More than 50 years later 'that day' is now upon us.and Hillary Clinton is ready to shatter through that glass ceiling for all women."

73. Great news !!
For John Edwards supporters, that is !

The Oprah and Streisand followers will split their votes between Clinton/Obama , and all the rest of the Dems who don't need a SUPERSTAH to tell them how to vote will naturally gravitate to Edwards.

Thanks Barbra ... Thanks Oprah !

86. I don't see how this will harm or hurt Senator Clinton
The type of voter who doesn't like Streisand because she is "liberal" is the type of voter who isn't going to vote for Senator Clinton anyway.

Senator Clinton is a centrist candidate, but most GOP supporters are convinced that she's a "far-left liberal" due to their indoctrination of rabid right-wing radio and FOX News. To them, Streisand's endorsement confirms Senator Clinton's quasi-socialism, but the rest of the country isn't going to care either way.

95. memories!
Mem'ries,
Light the corners of my mind
Misty water-colored memories
Of the way we were
Scattered pictures,
Of the smiles we left behind
Smiles we gave to one another
For the way we were
Can it be that it was all so simple then?
Or has time re-written every line?
If we had the chance to do it all again
Tell me, would we? Could we?
Mem'ries, may be beautiful and yet
What's too painful to remember
We simply choose to forget
So it's the laughter
We will remember
Whenever we remember...
The way we were...
The way we were...

It is 2007 folks!
