Poll question: Oprah suporting Obama - Positive or Negative?
I have my own idea which I won't put in the OP, but I was wondering how much Oprah's support of Obama is helping or hindering him from your own personal viewpoint and in the horse race?

1. How about don't know? I tend to think it would help more in the General than a primary but I don't
know.I have no idea how a state like Iowa will react to her and wether it helps with dems or not.It wouldn't influence anyone I know but so?????

3. Our candidates must eschew the endorsement and assistance of influential media titans at all costs!
You have to spin pretty hard to paint this as a negative.

4. Where's the who the f**k cares category? I know she's supporting him, but it's
having little influence on my support.

She's an American citizen, she can support any candidate. As well as volunteer her time to support that candidate's campaign.

9. Same here. Who she supports is not going to influence my decision.
If anything it will be a negative because Dr Phil's connection with her. Dr Phil is a effing quack and should be locked up. He is a useless idiot that has no business giving advice to others.

5. Oprah's support for Obama is based on the wrong
principles. She supports Obama simply because of his race. I know it, you know and so does any right thinking person. Not because Obama has the most experience, knowledge, personality, all the attributes one needs to be president from day one. Her support for him is like the whites in the old south who would never vote for a black but would support the white candidate even when folks knew the black candidate was way more qualified.

Just my thoughts
Ben David

6. I don't think it's solely because of his race, really, but...
I'm sure that's a big factor in her support. I think she genuinely believes Obama is better than all the other candidates, because he's black, sure, but also because of his positions. I mean she didn't support Sharpton, did she? He's black. :)

8. I support Hillary for more than the fact she is middle aged white female,
but that is part of it. I would expect the same is true for Oprah -- that she supports him for a variety of reasons.-mb

11. She is only doing it for two reasons....
Because he is black and because he is the first black to truly have a chance to win. I disagree with her completely. She would not even have any of the other candidates on her show. The whites down south will not vote for him in a million years even if the like Oprah. I have many southerners in my extended family and the "n" word flows freely even from their small children. I have lost respect for Oprah due to her support of one candidate and her not giving any one else a forum to show their qualifications. We are not blind sheep who are going to do what the mighty Oprah tells us to do. I am no longer willing to vote for him and I no longer watch her show.

13. Ouch!
And I think you may be correct. I don't see many white southerners voting for Obama, least of all due to Oprah's endorsement and support, but what about the larger populations of black southerners? Wouldn't a lot of them agree with Oprah?

That's fucking ridiculous.

10. I can't agree that she is polarizing but she is unhip.
I haven't watched enough of Oprah to determine if she is polarizing. Nor do I care to.

16. Controversial? In what? I'm truly asking because in comparison to most celebrities, she seems pretty
tame in the controversy arena.

17. She has a philosophy of self help combined with foo-foo mysticism
that offends many. She has also supported a number of questionable figures and causes over the years. Her bullying within the industry (she has a well known reputation for this) also offends many

20. OK.
I'm encouraged the polarization you describe requires some holistic and existential thinking on the part of those who fall on the opposing polarizing point.
