3. Paid Expenses?

Sorry, but you have to find your own way to Denver.
AND pay for your own hotel and expenses.
There should be plenty of mixers to go to, though!
:toast:

Maybe you'll get to hold the state sign on the floor of the convention!
GO FOR IT!

2. You have to be a delegate...
The Caucus just elects the people who will represent the winner of the district in the primary...

So if you say run as a delegate for Edwards and he wins that district, you will be his representative in Denver for that district...

If he loses, you are not going to Denver, at least as a delegate...

You have no vote unless your candidate wins the primary election...

The last time they had an open Caucus meeting that I went to, back in 1996, local political figures stacked the meetings and won the right to represent at the convention...

4. Win and lose
In Ohio, each district is assigned so many delegates (4-7) PER CANDIDATE.
Delegates are assigned based on Popular Vote on Primary Day.

EX: In my district (OH-14) we get SIX.
So, if my candidate gets 15% of the popular vote,
then ONE of his delegates from my district goes to the Convention;
30% means TWO delegates go, and so forth.

Let's say the vote in MY District comes out like this:
Dodd 37% = 2 Delegates
Obama 31% = 2 Delegates
Kucinich 17% = 1 Delegate
All Others 15% = 0 Delegates

In 2004 Kerry and Edwards did not get enough votes in the primary election.
So we had to have a First-Ever Secondary Caucus to fill out our District's Delegation.
Such would be the case in my example above, to fill the sixth delegate.

Clear as mud, right?

So it's proportional, at least in Ohio.
See my post (above) on the DU-OH board for details and links.

Check with your local & state Dem Office to see what the rules are
in your area. In some states the Dem Central Committee chooses.
It's different everywhere.

6. Yep, yep, and yep......you are correct in every way. I have seen caucus goers bring in
bus loads of bodies.......

It's the little 2 minute speech that sometimes will win you a spot as a prospective delegate.

And let's not forget the "super delegates"........by the time they are given a spot....few are left for at large.

Yep, that's Ohio.

5. Thanks, Bill O Rights Man
Sorry I can't post in the Ohio political forum. I'm still banned from posting there after the Brown-Hackett primary.

Will definitely look into the caucus.
