Why the Democratic leadership and contenders disappoint me: HALF MEASURES
The last activity on HR 676 single payer insurance for all was in April of 2005.

Not one of the major Democratic leaders has discussed it to my knowledge. Not one of the leading candidates for president endorses it, instead being beholden to the rich and their demand that the insurance industry be left in its current, vicious for-profit condition.

Folks that's positively despicable.

And though Dennis is for 676, he is hardly a serious contender for the presidency.

The disconnect between the people who call themselves Democrats and those who claim to be the people's representatives is stunning, whether it be on matters of healthcare, constitutional DUTY to impeach, foreign policy, or any number of other issues.

Indeed, and though I will of course vote Democratic since that is the only (and increasingly false) choice the oligarchy allows at the national level, one of the reasons I decided to study Marxism and claim to be Marxist now is because of my disillusionment with the reality at the leadership level; it's all just bread and circuses. I knew, even after being a state delegate in 2004, that there was no way Kerry would win. I remember neighbors of mine, all of whom knew I was the most politically energized and active on the block, we surprised when I said I would not bother coming over to have an election-watching party with them. "What's the point?" I asked.

As most DUers know now and may well recall, I was very much correct in that estimation.

As my deeply religious grandma used to say, "Show me the fruit."

Well, there ain't any. Not in forty years.

Frnakly, it's pretty hard to have ANY FAITH whatsoever in the sham that is our electoral system, not to mention the never-really-been-a democracy that underlies it. I really want to believe Edwards, but it's hard to square the Edwards of '08 with the one four years ago, IMO. And then there is his pesky friendship with scumbag and big Dem Fred Baron (google up the articles in the Dallas Observer about him), a man who was rumored to be relocating to the east coast from his incredible Dallas mansion to work on Edward's campaign although I do not know that they would even have him given his illustrious sleazy past.

And then we get around to his healthcare plan... sorry, I am not down for authoritarian mandates to force people to pay for-profit insurers by threatening to keep their tax returns. That is just more of the same wealth transfer bullshit we see in spades from the RepubliFascists.

My faith in democracy will be restored the day I see we have leaders that are even remotely as progressive as the party base. You sure don't have to look far over the other side of the fence to find leaders who are every bit as reactionary and retarded as their base, yet one cannot point to that as the proof of functioning democracy since they're only roughly a third of the folks...

2. He's right on healthcare
but he is a new age whacko who will not and could not ever win. I am more practical than to work for his campaign for Absolutely Nothing. He is the Lyndon LaRouche of the Democratic Party.

And gawd, how anyone could take him seriously after his Ron Paul comments, I'll never know. That is conclusive material proof he's a nutjob.
