Obama slightly ahead, but "Half in Iowa Could Change Their Minds"
"Close to half of the Democrats and 61 percent of the Republicans say they still could be persuaded to change their minds. Campaign strategists figure that some holiday conversations with family and friends will turn to politics and that those discussions may well influence decisions."

3. Could is the keyword. I could change my support, but I'm not going to.
Edited on Sun Dec-02-07 06:24 PM by Kerry2008
And your headline is wrong. According to the paragraph you posted, it's close to half of Democrats. Not half of Democrats. Not much difference, but being accurate matters.

4. No way these undecideds will settle on Hillary... voters know everything about her and Bill already.
If they aren't sold by now, they won't be on Jan. 3. I suspect most of these undecideds are trying to decide between Obama and Edwards.
It's conceivable that Obama and Edwards will come in #1 and #2 with Clinton in third, especially given that Obama and Edwards lead
Hillary as second choice.

But I was undecided last week.

Now I'm voting for HRC in the NY Primary.

17. I'm a New Yorker as well
And Hillary will never get my vote in the primary. She's used this state as her platform for running for President. She doesn't care about any of us.

8. All the negative personal attacks from Rudy, Barack, Mitt, and Johnny have taken their toll.
Professional hatred ala Karl Rove is very effective. Just ask John Kerry.

11. Her problems have nothing to do with the candidate herself
It's all someone else's fault.

Damn them!

Is he really that ineffectual?

7. Not good news for Clinton.
Edited on Sun Dec-02-07 06:40 PM by calteacherguy
Many people made up thier minds about her years ago. I doubt many of the ones who say they still could change would be changing their mind to Clinton at this point.

It's been Clark - Clinton (for two weeks after Clark endorsed her) - Obama.

What, people aren't allowed to change their minds? I guess Hillary supporters believe in the fossilization of opinions.

Tell me, when a Cliton canvasser finds an Obama supporter in Iowa who was previously a Clinton supporter, do they subject them to petty, jealous ridicule? Great way to win votes. Keep it up!

26. You make a ridiculous point...
About the solidification of Hillary's support...when it is contradicted by your own example...

And then provide yet another example...

Which is it, her support is set in stone or isn't it?

22. He has a good shot, but then again so does Edwards.
And Richardson could still shock and narrowly win it. Hillary has a hard road to hoe with her negatives.

10. With so many undecided and with such strong downward momentum, I'm starting to believe Hillary = 4th
The Richardson and Biden folks have been saying that their guy will sneak into 3rd. I have been dismissing that possibility, but who is to say where Hillary hits bottom in Iowa?

She's still headed downward. She has poor 2nd choice support. It could be a bloodbath in Iowa for Hillary.

18. Not 1st in a million years. Maybe 2nd, but I doubt it. 3rd probably. 4th increasingly possible.
Edited on Sun Dec-02-07 07:34 PM by Stop Cornyn
The trends for Hillary are as bad as they were for Gephardt.

Hillary is doing TERRIBLY in terms of 2nd choice support.

It's a perfect storm of failure.

20. She could finish as low as 4th. Someone from the second tier will rise and overtake her.
Richardson has the best chance to do this.

21. This thing is wide open. The first place slot in this poll (Obama) only has 28%.
A significant percentage can still change their minds. Anyone in the top 4 in this poll could conceivably win Iowa. All the candidates have vulnerabilites that will mean they have to fight like hell to win this state.

23. That can only HELP Obama since people don't know him as well they know Hillary
and people either hate her or love her. Obama's numbers are rising the longer the race goes on. The opposite is true with Hillary.
