Biden goes after McCain on Iraq
Allison, IA (November 27, 2007) – Today Sen. John McCain again defended President Bush’s failed policies in Iraq and attacked Sen. Joe Biden, saying he was “willfully ignoring the facts on the ground.” The facts on the ground are that there is no political progress in Iraq.

“I have great respect for John McCain and we clearly agree on one thing: our military will accomplish any mission we give them. Over and over again, they've done their job in Iraq, but the President has not done his. The point that John refuses to acknowledge is that, on its own terms, the surge has not succeeded. The purpose of the surge was to buy time for a political settlement to take hold. That has not happened and there is no evidence it will happen so long as the President stubbornly sticks to his misguided policy of trying to build a strong central government in Baghdad. There is a real window of opportunity here for the President to stop pursuing a failed strategy, and to bring the world in to help implement the plan I proposed – and that 74 other Senators endorsed – for a decentralized, federal Iraq. That's the only way we can leave Iraq without leaving chaos behind.”

More at the link, including all of McCain's comments about Iraq.

1. This was a telling engagement. Alright, I'm going to go out on a
limb here, and predict the general election will be one between Joe Biden and John McCain. When it comes time to season the sauce, Americans are going to choose maturity, honesty and competency. Just one idiot's view.

2. If that happens, rumor has it that they would go out on the campaign trail together.
Could you imagine that?

7. I'm imagining. Yes, I am. And can you imagine the debates those two
genuine statesmen would generate? Those two candidates are heads and shoulders above any other, across the board.

3. Dude, they nominated Bush.
Repubs choose "maturity, honesty and competency?!?"

The Biden thing makes sense to me though.

4. Dudarooni... and enough to make a difference this time around have figured
out they made a BIG mistake! One thing Bush has done is sober up the body politic, in my opinion.

12. Not a bad assessment for an "idiot"
I think you're right. The American people have grown up a lot the last few years and they aren't falling for the same old politics. They want a really mature, experienced person in the WH.

Lets hope we're right.

13. He's kept his "eye on the ball"
The people are fed up with Bush and the Republicans. They don't want to hear all this bickering amongst the Democratic candidates.

11. Call me simple, but I want candidates from the Repugs and the Dems that could
actually handle the job of POTUS. I want one from both parties. I want an election that's win-win for America. Let's blow the chaff and mill the grain.

10. Is McCain a Democratic candidate now? Oh... you mean he was going after a Republican? That's novel.

14. I just can't see how McCain could honestly believe this surge is "working" -- to
what end? As Biden said, the impetus for it was to create a space in which to work out a political settlement. So why aren't they doing that? Now that they've achieved that, what do they want to do with this opportunity? Nothing? What does that accomplish? I just don't get it.

15. Biden v. McCain? One can dream...
That would be good for the country, if nothing else. Compare that to the bizarre sex/psychodrama that Rudy v. Hillary would make.

16. Dare to dream. All actions begin with an intention. Let's all intend
the best for America and the planet. Nothing comes to pass by accident. Nothing comes to pass without the thought that it will.
