5. Hillary on Immigration
immigration was not an issue before because Clinton created 22M jobs.

Will you crack down on employers? YES.

The debate is extreme, and unrealistic to round up people and deport them.

I hope NPR does this during the presidential season. Two people, no audience, no stupid questions and lots of times to address issues.

128. The same was true in the 1930s
from Wikipedia (with my bolds):

The Mexican Repatriation was a largely forced migration mainly taking place between 1929 and 1937, when an estimated 500,000 Mexicans and Mexican Americans, of which approximately 250,000 of whom had been born in the United States, were deported or "voluntarily repatriated" to Mexico. Approximately 60% of the people deported were children who were born in America and others who, while of Mexican descent, were legal citizens. Many of these people returned to the United States when the country experienced labor shortages during World War II.

During the Great Depression, Mexicans were viewed as a burden on social services such as relief aid and usurpers of American jobs. This sentiment coupled with a eugenicist concept of "undesirable" races to bring about the deportations. The Immigration and Naturalization Service targeted Mexicans because of "the proximity of the Mexican border, the physical distinctiveness of mestizos, and easily identifiable barrios."

These actions were authorized by President Herbert Hoover and targeted areas with large Hispanic populations, mostly in California, Texas and Michigan. Although President Franklin Roosevelt ended federal support for the program when he took office, many state and local governments continued with their efforts.

No studio audience, real journalists asking questions, all candidates are able to answer questions at length. It also seems to me that they all keep saying "Chris is right", or "I agree with what Joe said". So maybe Dodd and Biden are better candidates than a lot of people think.

64. Agreed, in terms of national competetiveness, but not as a blanket solution to low wages
which boils down to "get a better job" which cannot work for a whole society.

But, certainly, it is good to have an educated work-force as the nature of some jobs changes.

As you said, context is important.

Will you remove the question of which language we speak when you call a govt. office?

Obama - no, there are many Spanish speaking Americans.

Clinton - we need to have English as a common unifying language, but there are many citizens who speak lang. other trhan English. We DO expect people who want to become legal in the USA to speak English, but they don't have to give up their own native language.

Kucinich - encourage our children should learn languages in school.

81. And so does Obama...
I don't know what it is about him, but when he says "when I am president", he doesn't say it as if he's hoping it is him, he says it as if it's a given. Everyone else says it with a measure of hope, and dignity, not arrogance.

88. Follow up: Reporter says she's hearing a lot of people say two families shouldn't
control the White House. Hillary uses her standard too-many-Bushes line and it works, but the intersting thing to me is the reporter's observation.

130. I think 24-28 YEARS of EIther Clinton or Bush is tooo MUCH!@
Have to vehemently DISAGREE w/ your contention, however I do agree w/ the PUKING though.

Newspapers were ALL ABOUT Edwards taking Hillary to task on Iran... Check Edwards policies and YouTube answers on Immigration... Just search John Edwards Immigration. Edwards is just fine and is VERY specific... Crack down on Employers for hiring illegals, micro-lending to improve the circumstances of those who live in the countries from which people emigrate to th U.S ISO a better life (ILLEGALLY), Strengthen Labor laws, Penalize companies who offshore jobs.

:bounce:Remember the ATTACK on the American MIDDLE CLASS involves far more than just illegal immigrants coming here and being willing to be exploited and work for LESS... This IS about American companies OFF-SHORING good paying MANUFACTURING jobs to LOW WAGE countries to enhance their bottom line.

Watch Edwards on Youtube on these issues... He is very specific and his policies are what the middle class needs. AND.... Above all He CAN BE TRUSTED to do what he says he is going to do!:D

He just said, half the bankruptcies in America are because of High Medical Bill. Yet, Edwards voted to disallow any leniency in these cases..What an effen two-faced turd Edwards is!
