How many Iowa caucus goers are at home in the middle of the
afternoon to watch the debates?

And how many even subscribe to cable to watched all the debates on CNN and MSNBC?

Do voters, then, have to rely on the pick and choose by the media and the campaigns?

OK, perhaps it does not matter much for Iowa with the "retail campaigning" but what about the rest of us?

1. Do we have cable?
Well, yeah. We have running water from the faucet, too.

Also, many people are home during the day, as there are farmers who are not in the fields and women who don't work outside the home.

Perhaps I'm misunderstanding your questions? I certainly hope so.

5. Twenty years ago, when I was a sophomore in High School, my family
moved from CR, IA to a Kansas City, MO suburb on the Kansas side of the state line. A high school kid asked me if we wore shoes in Iowa and what we watched on TV and listened to on the radio. My reaction was what you would expect - what a dumbass, we get the same TV and music that they do, yes, we wear friggin shoes and what the hell was he talking about, he lives in Kansas for God's sake so who was he to talk. It was quite funny though and just shows how clueless people can be about other states or regions of the country.

6. Whoa, what a thin skin
At least on DU, whenever we comment about, say, Olbermann, or Jon Stewart, many would comment that they do not have cable. The meaning, of course, is that they choose not to pay extra for cable service.

Thank you for your point about farmers. I was thinking more of the big city of Des Moines.

Oh, and when I lived in Iowa in the 80s, (in Des Moines) the joke told me was that Iowa's seasons were Spring, Summer, Fall and Miami Beach. Perhaps things have changed since then.

(It was just a joke!)

The 80s were also the years when there were talks about the disappearance of the family farm and the arrival of corporate farms, instead. Glad to know that the family farm is alive and well.

7. Olbermann and Stewart are on extended cable.
Many farmers have satellite or other services and may only have basic cable programming. However, as you know, these debates pop up ad nauseum, so there will be many opportunities to see them. Most homes have computer access, too.

Sorry if I sounded sensitive, but I do get tired of people poking at Iowans over the primary. Many of us consider the process a serious issue and spend a lot of time on it, so it tends to po some of us when we are treated as hicks.

I'll see if I can get some skin cream to toughen the ol' hide. :hi:

2. Actually there's probably more than you might think. It's farm country,
and you sure don't do much farming in December! I think those interested in politics would have watched, and if they couldn't they will watch tonight.

They also had 21 undecided Iowans who were asked to watch and then interviewed by CNN. Their assessment surprised me! Very few agreed, but they chose Rudy, MC Cain & Huck! The only thing I agreed with them on was that Freddie lost!

It seems they still believe udy is the best on security, McCain is best on the military, and good old Huck is the nice guy!
