A whispering campaign by definition is the worst kind of mudslinging.
I wouldn't care if Hillary Clinton stood up today and publicly accused Obama of having used drugs in his youth. The problem I have is her people going around hinting in private that, "you know, there may be something there for the Republicans to attack him on, but you didn't hear it from me." Ambushing Axelrod by referring to the Hope Fund as a slush fund when he had no time to rebute the charge

falls into the same category.

1. How else do you get people to vote for a candidate they don't really want?

Others can run on their merits. Hillary has to run on the fear of a another GOP presidency. Luckily, people are waking up.

2. This is politics! Nasty politics.........
I don't know if it is true or not that Seen. Clinton's Campaign is spreading these rumors, but Sen. Obama's supporters need to get a much thicker skin.

If Sen. Obama wins the nomination, please don't doubt that the repukes will start slinging mud that smells a lot like $hit!

BTW, I'm leaning toward voting for Sen. John Edwards in the Missouri primary.

3. Politics is not a dirty word. It is how people govern themselves.
Behaving as if whispering campaigns, push polls and other dirty tricks are what politics is about is the act of someone with nothing to offer to the national conversation.

6. What the Rethugs do is irrelevant...
I'm fully expecting them to even make an issue of his race. It's that a DEMOCRAT is doing this to another DEMOCRAT...and at the same time talking about "turning a page" and "change in Washington." It not only makes Hillary Clinton look completely hypocritical, but also sleazy.

4. This is the sort of thing
that happens that makes me abhor election season. I don't know if any of this is true, but leave it to the media to keep it going. Our worst enemy is the media. Remember what they did to Al Gore in 2000. They told us he didn't wear the right clothes; they told us he was "wooden";They told us Bush was "compassionate"; They told us every lie they could think of. If the media had done their job we would not be going through the worst administration in memory.

5. I love the internet because it sheds a lot of sunlight on these
whispering campaigns. Years ago, Jimmy Carter's presidency was done in in part by rumors spread by Republicans and establishment Democrats. I don't think that would happen today.

7. Seems to me that Obama's tactic is to smear Hillary for smearing him.
And if Hillary herself won't smear him, to find somebody associated with Hillary and take offense at some somment they made, claiming she made it, and inflating it to an importance it would not otherwise have had.

IOW, the only reason we know about Shaheen's 'drug' comments is because of the Obama camp's REACTION to them. It's the old "I'll get sympathy from mom by telling her the big kids are picking on me" -- whether they really ARE picking on me or not.

Obama may be able to elicit sympathy this way from the MSM (who hate Hillary) and Democrat primary voters, but if he thinks such a tactic will work against Rethuglicants, he's in for a surprise. The instant he starts claiming those people are treating him unfairly is the instant those people will triple their attacks.

8. Uh, no
We knew here of Shaheen's statement before Obama's reaction.

So you are wrong:

"IOW, the only reason we know about Shaheen's 'drug' comments is because of the Obama camp's REACTION to them."
