Iowa caucuses--when do we get anything like results?
They don't even START until 6:30 pm (7:30 Eastern time). But is there a "close of discussion" time and an "announcement of final results" time?

Then I'm guessing we have to wait for the tabulation of the results for all 1,784 precincts...

Maybe I'll just check NPR on Friday morning

Anybody know?

1. The results are usually in the 10 PM news that night, or shortly after.
The Presidential part of the caucus is typically done by about 8:00 PM. The precinct captain tabulates the results and calls them in. Then the caucus moves on to platform issues, and the non harcore attendees leave.

2. I went to the caucuses in 2004 and I felt like I was the last to
know because I had to wait to get out - a couple hours and the results were already on all of the news channels. I knew the result of the specific caucus I was at (Delegates: 4 for Kerry, 3 for Edwards, 2 for Dean) but that was all I knew. It actually ended up being quite representative of the general outcome.

Now that I get the internet on my cell phone, I guess I wont be as out of the loop on January 3rd. I'll be sitting with my group and checking out DU on my cell phone for news updates. :)

3. Heh! I knew trouble was brewing when my caucus went
1- Dean
1- Edwards
1- Kerry

After we delivered our caucus packet to HQ and headed to the Dean caucus party the world knew it too. x(

I say results are complete by 9:00 PM (CST) - no different than elections.

4. The results are called into an online tabulator
They'll be available as soon as the caucus locations all report.

They have a great dial-in system.

5. You'll know by no later than 11PM
It's pretty efficient.
