He's shown his true colors already, more than once, but he can claim that he's endorsing McCain because of specifics, such as what he says what McCain's principled stand on the Iraq war.

But what if the GOP nominee is one of the others? What pretense will he offer? I assume Lieberman will find some reason to endorse the Republican nominee anyway, but there might be a small amount of entertainment in how he does it.

1. If we get enough seats next year, Lieberman MUST be...
thrown out of the caucus. End his career!

3. Hear, hear!
Right now, it looks very likely that the Democrats will have seats to spare in the Senate. But will Reid agree to dumping Lieberman from the caucus?

8. He might not want to do it without a 60 vote filibuster-proof majority without Lieberman
And I don 't see us picking up 10 seats in the Senate.
So, I don't think Reid (or whoever the majority leader
is, and it might well be someone else) will kick Joe out,
but Joe will probably leave of his own accord anyway, using
the words of Jim Jeffords ("I didn't leave the party, it left
me"), and be completely wrong. If anything, the party as a whole
moved farther to the right than many Democrats envisioned or wanted.
But Lieberman moved even farther to the right than the party did.

He is no more a Democrat now than Chuck Hagel, and in some ways,
even less so. At least Chuck Hagel deviates from the Republican
line every now and then. Lieberman seems more and more loathe
to do so.

5. Okay, now let's suppose this:
McCain with the GOP nomination, Obama wins the Dem nomination and picks Lieberman as his running mate.

What does Joe do then?

It's a silly speculation, but an amusing one.
