Bill Clinton: Hillary Will Call Upon Bush 41
Bill Clinton might have just done it again — saying something in the home stretch that will cause Hillary's campaign a whole lot of trouble.

"Well, the first thing she intends to do, because you can do this without passing a bill," Bill told reporters during a stop in South Carolina, "the first thing she intends to do is to send me and former President Bush and a number of other people around the world to tell them that America is open for business and cooperation again."

A president certainly can do that. But Bill is saying that George H. W. Bush would agree to participate in an assignment predicated on his son being publicly acknowledged as a failure — and all Bush 41 has to do now is say that he wouldn't. And beyond that, do Democratic activists really want to hear that someone named George Bush will be recruited to assist in Hillary's foreign policy?

Seems to me like Bill's ready to sweep everything under the carpet just like he did for his daddy, oops I mean Poppy.

He is NOT gettin a dig in on 43. He's acknowledging that his crimes will go unpunished.

Are you even old enough to know the history of Iran Contra, and how Bill let them off the hook for their crimes???

Well, I will still try to refrain from that level of "discourse."

I do get the whole "bots" thing as a Matrix reference.
How the 'bots' would swarm at the slightest noise...
It would be funny if this were not so serious.

People dying and all.

i guess even a Hillary/Jeb ticket would be alright, according to some.

If Obama decided to have Powell or Poppy Bush as pseudo-ambassador, to tell the world "America's back in business" --would you find it a smart move?
Would you support it?
I would not. just wondering what your position would be.

If the internet has shed light on the rotten things Republicans have done and what they are getting away with, it's also starting to seveal things about Democrats. When I was more innocent, I was very bothered listening to Dems on MTP and other talk shows. Then I learned that I was justified. It all hurts to see all the little skins coming off the onion. I was certainly gullible. Every day the corporations make more ground - on to serfdom.

40. I think the current President should use the talents of all previous Presidents...
Regardless of party...Carter called on Nixon for advice for example...

But that presumes there is talent to call on...

While Bush 41 has many, many faults and was a very bad President...he is still respected in many areas of the world, particularly in southeast asia and he very well may be useful there...but wouldn't send him to the mideast...as that would cause more harm than good...

Now I can't imagine what you would call on Bush 43 for..since there isn't a thinking person on the plane t that thinks he has done a single thing correctly...

Edited on Tue Dec-18-07 02:41 AM by Dr Fate
The Clinton/Bush Sr. defenders seem to be forgetting that Bush Sr. has DEFENDED his son's actions almost across the board.

I doubt he or any other Bush has much credibility these days-inside or outside the USA, and it's certain that throwing around the Bush family name will not impress that many people anymore.

Besides, it makes no sense. So Bush Sr- defender of the current admin is supposed to be some kind of ambassador for goodwill & reason? Really?

Republicans, conservatives, DLC types and anyone else who sincerely thinks the world wants to recieve a Bush as somekind of goodwill messenger is indeed out of step with DU- as well as most of the world.

This was a united country. Not coincidentally brought to you by the Bush Crime Family.
But not exactly the precedent I would like to see America follow.
Though sadly, that is exactly the path we have been on since 12/12/2000. Arguably before then. :(

135. I think a Sen. Clinton presidency would see all Bushie investigations quashed
"for the good of the country", the same way BillO quashed Iran-Contra, Iraqgate and BCCI "for the good of the country".

Which begs the question, exactly WHAT does BushClinton consider the "country"? Them and their coktail party pals? Because it sure isn't the Filthy Little Nobodies that do most of the working and living and dying in country.

Oh, and one more thing I would expect from a Sen. Clinton pResidency: that nothing of substance would be done to restore the System of Checks and Balances, so that, when the next Bushie (do they dare choose another one from BushClinton...I don't think it matters, they know they own us all like Bobbie Lee owned his slaves) comes along they can pretty much start up where Bushler left off.

This is exactly, in retrospect, what Dubya did after 8 years of ClintonBush mysteriously failed to repair any of the damage to our System of Checks and Balances such that Dubya picked up right where Poppy left off in '92.

157. I seem to remember how Bill decided to be bi partisan, it worked soooo well
Newt shutting down the government more than once. Bill's great work on welfare reform, that turned out to be a disaster. NAFTA, which was started under Poppy. Then there was Waco where he had the national guard sent in. More globalization.
Bill never met a republicon he didn't like. Meanwhile the republicons stabbed him in the back repeatedly and yet he continued to befriend them.

Why is that???

Maybe since you are ALL for the Bushes and Clinton love-fest maybe HRC could get Lil' Brother Jebbie to be her running mate. Boy oh boy, wouldn't that just unite our country. :puke:

Count me out. I don't want anymore bi-partisanship. It only works to the advantage of the republicons and the Ruling Class. Which neither you nor I belong too.

Forget what various non DUer Republicans, conservatives and DLCers think about Bush Sr's positions on Iraq & FP issues- how does this work out in reality? How will the outside world feel about the sincerity of Bush Sr.- a constant defender of Bush Jr? How does the average Non DLCer/Non-Republican Amercian feel about the current Bush family FP positions on Iraq, etc?

Anyone who agrees with the current admin and is so closely associated with it (especially someone with the Bush name) has no business representing a DEM admin who is trying to patch things up and take things in a different direction, It makes no sense- even if it does play well with non DUer DLCers and Republicans.

People of the Year: Bill Clinton and George H.W. Bush
Former Presidents Put Aside Political Differences for Tsunami, Hurricane Relief
Dec. 27, 2005

What an unlikely pair -- former Presidents Bill Clinton and George Herbert Walker Bush. The two men came together earlier this year to try to ease the suffering of so many in the wake of Asia's devastating tsunami.

"I think that if someone gives you the White House and gives you the most wonderful job in the world," Clinton said, "you ought to spend the rest of your life trying to give back to the American people whatever you can..."

"...At President George W. Bush's request, the two visited the region and raised money for rebuilding homes and lives ravaged by the tsunami, which left more than 200,000 people dead or missing..."

"... The former presidents have also raised more than $100 million for Hurricane Katrina relief in Louisiana and Mississippi. More than 500,000 families lost their homes in the hurricane..."

Much more at link.

Edited on Tue Dec-18-07 02:25 AM by Dr Fate
Does your article say anything about Bush popularity in the rest the world, concerning his positions on Iraq & FP? Anything about how these Bush positions play with normal people besides the media?

Yes- ABC media tells us how great a Bush is (what is new?)-so lets send a defender of the current admin who is also named Bush out into the world to patch things up- ABC seems to think he is great, so surely everyone else does. Doesnt make sense, does it?

People dont mind if Bush Sr. tries to get to heaven every now & then by supporting charity- but someone who agrees with the current admin, as an ambassador for rebuilding ties in the world? Surely you could see why rational minds world-wide would be opposed to this.

73. Why doesn't it surprise me...
that the first thing shes gonna do is kiss corporate ass and use a repug to help her do it? Sigh.

With that said though, I've always kind of looked at Bush 41 as a "last of the Mohican's" kind of conservative. He said "read my lips no new taxes" and when it was a choice between fiscal sanity and stupidity he made the right call. It cost him big. I'll give a little credit to him for that and as long as they can keep him from puking on everyone perhaps he wouldn't be the worst businessman to send around to schmooze the rest of the world's scrooges.

I'm no fan of Hillary, but this one just cant seem to register on my outrage meter. This dog turd of a story is white and powdery right out of the gate and I predict no matter how many times the Obama camp tries to poke it with a stick and fan the stink over in Hillary's direction, its just not going to work. The big dog is going to say silly things and bop alot of women. Who didn't know that?

I sure hope Hillary and Obama keep shanking each other though. Edwards seems to rise a pt every time the battle flares up again.

and I was politically active and opposed Reagan/Bush throughout the 80s. Yes, Bush was involved in Iran Contra. Nobody ever said he wasn't. But he didn't run the Reagan presidency.

He wasn't considered an exceptionally powerful VP. Al Gore and Dick Cheney were much more influential.

147. Okay, just checking. Except for the whole running wars outa the basement thing...
I agree with you that he was not seen as a strong VP.

Covertly, yes. Overtly, no.

I am 50 and experienced much the same as you - I just wanted to make sure you had a long term perspective on this.
Good to know I don't have to catch you up on past episodes of this long running drama! ;)

Hey, we can agree on some things and not on others, it's cool.
I just want the Bush and neocon agendas to be dashed on the rocks of history.
Too much to ask? Probably.

Compared to the shit flung at me on another thread for the simple desire to see this, and the ill-advised "strategy" of including Poppy in ANY dem "healing process" -- you are being quite the gentleman.
This is NOT about any particular candidate with me.
I don't know if that helps at all, but there it is.

93. Yup... and I know exactly how you feel.
I can barely remember a time when someone other than a Bush or Clinton was in office. It's sick how stacked the system is to favor establishment
party machine candidates, who operate like Rovian character assassins as if it were perfectly normal (this applies to both the Bushes and Clintons,
as we've seen). "ENOUGH ALREADY!" is right.

94. as a baby of the late 80s, a bush or clinton has been in office all of my life
x( ugh. It really is time for someone new. Anyone new at this point, it would really suck for me to have only two families running the country my entire life. Basically, all of the Dem. candidates look better to me than Hillary. And I say that as someone who use to admire Hillary's tenacity and strength. Now I'm just sick of her. People can't see a problem with this? I really don't think this was a good thing to say at all; it just ads to people's fears that this is becoming dynasty like. I wouldn't be surprised if Clinton worked to put another Bush in after they are elected. This poor country.

Nixon, Ford, Reagan twice. 41 and his dumb son (twice). 27 years of shite on a shingle.

Yeah, some real first-round draft picks in the asshole lottery there, let me tell you.

I'm not too jazzed about the current and potential dynastic trade-off either.

If Hillary wins and stays for 8 years it will be 1/3 of the US.

And then it's time for brother Jeb!

98. Clinton is the ultimate egotist
The problem is he's making this election a referendum on him.

If Obama is elected and asks him to go around the world as kind of a good will ambassador for Amurka he'd do it in a heartbeat as long as he could keep his face on the TV screen.

I don't think he really gives a flyin fuck if Hillary is elected as long as he has the opportunity to pontificate on crap like this.

It's really kind of pathetic, the guy is so irrelevant. He was an OK president but he's turned into an attention whore. And he forgets there are a lot of people in this country who just plain hate his fucking guts.

He's achieved what he has wanted his whole life - he now gets to hobnob with the elite like poopy bush. If he doesn't STFU he'll kill Hillary's chances completely.

110. No, I don't think thats right..
It isn't a secret 41 and Cheney do not get along. Cheney has established himself as a defacto president having 43 as his front man. 41 has been against Cheney for years now, even to the point of having The Hamilton Iraq Study Group intercede in formulating a plan for Iraq including eventual withdrawal but since 43 is convinced the course set by Cheney is working for them, 43 has chosen the path of least resistance and prefers acting as helpless as a kitten letting Cheney continue to run the show.

imo- 41 would like nothing better than kicking Cheney's ass out of the WH personaly. A 41 alliance at this juncture could be just the ticket guaranteeing a Dem president.

99. The Clintons keep forgetting about the internet
Edited on Tue Dec-18-07 01:57 AM by Dr Fate
Back in their day (que up Blind Melon "Dancing Bee theme") this might have gotten repeated on TV once, or not at all- and the ever loyal base would never be the wiser.

Oh how times have changed- and I think the Clintons still dont get that- either that or they honestly think they can continue to razz said "ever loyal" base. Either way it's not working for me- and if they lose the nomination or the general I think it will be a factor.

In any event-I really dont see how bringing the George Bush Family into this is supposed to impress anyone at this point-much less the informed DEM base.

119. Worldwide, Carter's views are more respected than the Bush FP view.
And here in the states, even the center and many conservatives no longer agrees with or supports the Bush's on most major FP issues.

The talking point makes no sense to me.

125. You know, I got this feeling somewhere around mid-summer 1992
That Poppy Bush had given up fighting, and just kinda half-assed limped his way through the rest of the campaign, not caring whether he won or not.

At the time, I figured maybe 3 terms was enough for him (anyone who really thinks Reagan was in charge, I got a beach front condo in Tucson for you)

Guess now we know the real story..... The Bush Crime Family was backing the Clintons this whole time. :grr:

129. Well, he still owes the Clintons for all the campaigning they did for him against Lamont.
And the fact that the Clintons never set foot in CT once for the Democrat shouldnt be lost him on either. To my knowledge, he never repaid the favor.

The Clintons may just have another "goodwill ambassador" with a stellar conservative FP record waiting in the wings,no? He owes them one. ;)
