How does one go about setting up a Young Democrats Club?
I live in a VERY red area, and my son is in a high school that has a young republican's club -- but NO representation for young Dems. Absolutely NOTHING.

I know who to contact in the school, and we have a possible teacher to oversee the club. But I would like to pull all possible information together, to make the club possible. Who would I contact? Will the Democratic Party help this new group out?

Any and all information will be greatly appreciated.

1. See if you state has a statewide Young Dems chapter

For example, Georgia has the Young Dems of Georgia. A google search should let you know.
The leadership of that organization should be able to give you any info you need.

Ok - on edit - after looking at your profile, I see you live in GA too. You need to get in touch with Tim Cairl (total sweetheart and one of the best Dems this state has to offer). Here is his email: tim@georgiayds.org and their website is: http://www.georgiayds.org/

PM me if you'd like more info. Tim is a personal friend of mine, so I could give him a call if you'd like.

4. Just got off the phone with Howard Dean's office
A Mr. Shelton is supposed to contact me.

I'll also contact Mr. Cairl today. We have such an obnoxious republican group at this school -- I'm sure we have other kids who would love to get involved with the young dems. Thanks!

2. Do you have county Democrats?
Contact them, and see if they could help. They can work with the teacher.

In my area, we have a five-county coalition, as well as a group that coordinates Democratic work in our district. The guy who is the coordinator of our five-county group is young. He is working on getting young Democrats organized.

Find someone in your county organization who is willing to work with the kids. If there is no one, get organized.
