Clinton papers withheld at ex President's direction
The National Archives is withholding from the public about 2,600 pages of records at President Clinton's direction, despite a public assurance by one of his top aides last month that Mr. Clinton "has not blocked the release of a single document."

snip

Sharon Fawcett, an overseer of the library, said in a recent interview that the records were withheld in accordance with a letter Mr. Clinton wrote in 1994 exercising his right to hold back certain types of files and another letter in 2002 about narrowing the scope of his earlier instructions.

Fawcett confirmed to the Sun Clinton had "total control" of the withholding of the papers.

It was during a Democratic presidential debate in October, where Hillary Clinton was questioned over a 2002 letter that discussed the possibility of withholding some records about the former first lady.

Bill Clinton referred to the questions as "breathtakingly misleading" and complained his wife had been "sandbagged."

"Bill Clinton has not blocked the release of a single document," the former president's official representative on records issues, Bruce Lindsey, said in a written statement last month aimed at defusing criticism in the press and by one of Mrs. Clinton's rivals for the Democratic nomination, Senator Obama of Illinois. Spokesmen for Mrs. Clinton's campaign and Mr. Clinton's office did not respond to requests for comment.

i'm sure this will be explained away. i'd go with saying Lindsey wasn't lying when he said, "Bill Clinton has not blocked the release of a single document" since there's actually "about 24,000 pages of closed Clinton White House records."

3. AND pray tell just what is it obama is trying to find? Damn! Starr
and his folks ran through HRC's dresser and rambled through her panties and bras. Is this what obama is looking for? I have never seen as much nonsense being made about the former first lady's records.

I say obama needs to tell what he is searching for and unless he does then I say let every slease rag report on anything they say obama has done....

9. He's looking for anything he can twist to use against her, all the while whining
that the Clinton camp is trying to dig up dirt on him.

Now if that ain't a true sign of leadership, hope, and change... :eyes:

15. Obama's people aren't looking through her trash cans....
Hillary's buddies were caught about three weeks ago outside of Obama HQ, stuffing Hillary signs into the barrels. One was putting the signs in, the other was getting his camera ready so they could claim that Obama people were destroying Hillary signs. NOOOO.....Hillary people never do anything underhanded! Her campaign is the dirtiest I've ever seen.

21. If HRC's campaign is the dirtiest you've ever seen, you haven't been around very long.
Just wait a few months until the GOP gets organized, and see if you STILL think Hillary is a dirty campaigner.

17. Obama?
It isn't Obama who wants this. It is that HRC is running on what she did in the WH, but the papers are not available.

20. WTF does Obama have to do with it?
And since it was the Clinton campaign dragging out shit from Kindergarten, it might behoove her supporters to be a little more circumspect about dirt digging allegations.

6. Oh Lord. President Clinton released a copy of the letter
he sent to bush and the archives requesting the release of all his papers. But evidently that isn't good enough. The written word isn't good enough. Something from a clerk, or supervisor superceeds that....gosh...is she even over riding the Executive Order 13,233 that bush signed prohibiting the release. Guess so..anything to flame and bash Hillary hell, I guess they would even quote Barney.

12. Well Sniffa, knowing that you want to be as accurate as possible...
I know that you will be interested in knowing that Bill Clinton is properly referred to as the Former President, not the ex-president.

To get this low, I suppose that you have run through all the dirt you could scrape up. Instead of saying Clinton lied about this, you might take on Bush and his secrecy concerning ALL of his and ALL of his Daddy's files.

But no, you had to get down in the mud again and squirm.

13. The release of the papers was covered pretty heavily after Russerts question in the debate.
My understanding is that what's blocked is blocked because of junior and the Patriot Act

Nov 2, 2007
Former President Clinton said Friday that a letter he wrote to the National Archives was to expedite release of his papers, not slow the process or hide anything as rivals are suggesting in criticism of his wife.

Hillary Rodham Clinton was quizzed during this week's Democratic presidential debate as to why correspondence between her and her husband from their White House years remained bottled up at the National Archives. Barack Obama said that was a problem for her as a candidate after "we have just gone through one of the most secretive administrations in our history."

One issue is whether Bill Clinton had sent a letter to the Archives asking that the communications not be released until 2012, and whether Hillary Clinton would lift any ban, a question raised by debate moderator Tim Russert.

which I guess is technically true.

"Bill Clinton has not blocked the release of a single document" since there's actually "about 24,000 pages of closed Clinton White House records."
