Obama gains in health care issue in New Hampshire
From Marc Ambinder today:

Buried in the latest CNN/WMUR poll of New Hampshire is this intriguing stat:

On the question of which candidate would do a better job on health care, Clinton has always led. But in a month that saw Clinton deride Obama's plan for its lack of a mandate, the gap has narrowed by 16 points. All the other issues were relatively static.

Still, Clinton has a sizable, 21-pt advantage. But perhaps the increased attention to Obama's plan helped Democrats become more familiar with it.

1. Its funny...
On Thanksgiving my quasi-mother-in-law went on this huge rant about how she hated what Deval Patrick did to health care in MA. (Yes, I set her straight). She couldnt imagine how anyone would try to force people to buy health insurance because they have no right to tell people what they can afford, etc., etc.

Then she went on to tell me that HRC had the best health care plan of all the candidates. When I filled her in on HRC's mandate, I thought her head was going to explode.

I wonder if this is why HRC doesnt talk about how she plans to enforce her mandate. It keeps the fact that it exists under the radar, at least to non-political junkie type folks.

2. The mandate aspect is a killer
It will really rub people the wrong way. I know, I know, we have it for other types of insurance (auto, home) but I know this won't play well with Americans.
