New Lifetime/Zogby Poll Reveals Women in New Hampshire and Nationwide Poised for Record Voter Turnou
With the New Hampshire primary approaching, a new Lifetime/Zogby poll of women shows Hillary Clinton leading among decided Democrats in the state, 39 percent to Barack Obama's 25 percent. John Edwards is third at 9 percent. Among decided New Hampshire Republicans, Mitt Romney leads with 23 percent, followed by John McCain at 16 percent, Mike Huckabee at 11 percent and Rudy Giuliani at 10 percent.

However, results show that many women in New Hampshire have yet to make up their minds about which candidate they will support in the primary. More than 40 percent of New Hampshire women are undecided, and nearly 30 percent say they are only leaning toward a particular candidate. Only one out of four women has definitely decided for whom she will vote on January 8th.

The poll also found an "Iowa Effect" that could change both contests dramatically, especially the Republican race. Overall, one in four New Hampshire women will switch candidates if her top pick does not place first in Iowa. More than 40 percent of McCain and Romney supporters say they will switch.

4. This is a poll of just women
so I don't think it contradicts any of the others in showing Hillary ahead of Obama among that group.

10. I'm talking about the "Iowa Effect" part of it

13. Gotcha
I think had to do somewhat with the wording. People don't like to admit they'd switch based on what someone else does. But when faced with the reality of their candidate not placing first, they are more willing to do so.

5. "Why yes, I am a woman in New Hampshire, and I AM poised for a record voter turnout."
Was the question too leading?

7. wow. Thanks for posting this sniffa!
It very much lines up with my experience in talking to the NH women I know. Some very interesting differences between NH women and the rest of the nation. We care about Iraq and health care more... and care about religion less than anyone. This is good insight into the minds of women in NH, imho.

8. OK, here's where my state pride kicks in
compared to Vermont, you guys have a long way to go. Here, we were way ahead of New Hampshirites on Iraq, way ahead on health care, and we're less religious than you are. And it's easy to back up. We're number one in health. Our state senate voted in support of impeaching bushco. We insure far more people through Dr. Dinosaur, VHAP and Catamount Health. We're rated better on the environment. Glad to NH catching up, but no way are you as progressive as VT.

11. I lived in VT for a couple of years and...
you wont get any arguments from me on those points. Except for the occasional old-timer calling me a flatlander... which I always thought was really funny. :)

I loved VT for exactly the reasons you mention. And I lived in some pretty rural areas.. Bethel & Randolf (for example) so it wasnt as if I lived where all the cool kids were if you know what I mean.

I loved the attitudes of the people in VT & hubby and I often talk about buying a big old hunk of land there. I didnt mean to imply that I thought NH was progressive... certainly not in relation to VT! :hi:

12. I'm glad as all get out to NH moving in a more liberal
direction. It's changed a lot over the years. And since I live in the Kingdom, I definitely don't live where all the cool kids live- though hey, we've got Bread & Puppet and the Contact Improv dance crowd.

:hi:

16. Beautiful country up there!!!
I used to visit Pittsburgh NH a lot and we'd zip over to the Kingdom just to admire the scenery. Though I dont know how you deal with the ultra-super-cold. I look at the weather map sometimes when Im feeling whiny about our temperatures and most of time you guys have it so much worse!

You have way fewer assholes than we do though. I think I'd make that trade. lol. Imagine if you guys got to vote first instead of us? I'd be all for that.

PS. Bread & Puppet rules!
