One-hit wonder?
When I heard Obama's breathtaking Keynote Address of the Democratic Convention of 2004, I said to myself that this guy is going to be our first African American president. I became an instant Barack Obama fan that night. Just before he delivered that address, the media was touting him as the rising star of the Democratic Party. I couldn't wait to hear him, and he didn't disappoint that night. For the next 2 years, my enthusiasm for Obama fed off that Keynote Address, never realizing until a few months ago that Obama has done very little since that night to live up to all the hype. Never again since that night in 2004 has he sounded or acted anywhere near as inspirational.

I don't know if it was just one huge night from a well written and well delivered speech, or if he raised his own expectations too high, or if the media over-hyped him, or what it was, but he sure hasn't recaptured the same magic moment he had during that amazing Keynote Address in what now seems like a long time ago.

2. His stump speeches seem very different from his debate performances.

6. when has he ever had to give a speech so important?
I mean, campaign speeches are important but you're not going to spend hours on hours writing a stump speech the way you would a speech for the democratic national convention. I'm think if he were to get the nomination and give a speech it would be great and rise to the level of his last convention speech.

7. yeah, too soon. he should have stayed fighting in the senate, honed his skills...
and come out next election. As he is now, he just does not impress me. We need someone strong to be a leading democrat, he needs more more history imo. He's nothing but a distraction imo right now.

8. You are describing my feeling the second time I heard Edwards' two Americas speech in '04
Edited on Thu Dec-20-07 07:26 PM by Kurt_and_Hunter
The first time I heard it I was convinced Edwards was our savior. The second time I heard it I was turned off by it, because hearing it twice revealed how canned and calculating it was.

A good speaker seems like he's saying this stuff for the first time, so classical orators often don't wear well.

Oratory was developed in a world without TV. You gave the one great speech then went off to the next town. People didn't keep hearing you every damn night.

10. One speech does not a President make.
That's what I've always thought about Obama.

11. Lamest post of the day. Obama is not my candidate by a long shot, but this post sucks.
"hasn't recaptured the same magic moment". WTF?! Who gives a shit about "magic moments"?!!?

At least I don't bother writing such crap nonsense about your candidate.

OH! Speaking of... why don't you promote your candidate rather than writing silly shit?

13. aww, if it isn't troubledinW, spreading her usual seeds of apathy & bitterness all over DU again
Do you ever have anything positive to say?

How feeble that you not only pick a thread to attack that comes straight from the heart, but you barely even changed the wording around from the last bunch of times you attacked posters who you perceive to be defenders of Clinton, even when the post has nothing to do with Clinton. At least try coming up with something original next time just to make it interesting. You really should seek help, ASAP!

In the meantime, have a couple of these. I hope it helps... :)

15. I'm not impressed anymore,
my doubts started with the way he handled Kyl/Lieberman, and any remaining enthusiam I had ended with Donny McClurkin.
