You can't have it both ways.
You can't claim that national polls showing Clinton and Obama way ahead, are meaningless, and then turn around and wave polls that show that Edwards is the only electable dem because he beats the repukes by a higher margin. Both polls suffer from related problems. Neither is particularly meaningful beyond being a snapshot.

1. Agreed.
The next poll that means anything will be in Iowa, on Jan 3.

3. There is an obvious difference.
And the difference is that a national primary poll is meaningless because there is no national primary. However, national polls matching up Republicans against Democrats are at least mildly relevant because one of those matchups is actually going to happen. I wouldn't put too much importance in them but they do show something.

4. er, no. they are both snapshots
Edwards is largely remembered as the candidate of 2004, and that's a very different candidate. If he's the nominee, the repukes and the MSM will have a lot to say about how he's framed for public consumption. Obama and Clinton have already been partially framed. And Edwards has had none of the negative coverage that the others have. He also hasn't had much positive, but that's my point. He's largely regarded as the JE of 2004.

5. The veracity rests solely on who runs the poll...
Was it Internet based? (Go to a website, click a link, call all your Freeper friends and have them do the same)

Was it by invitation? (Such as Zogby, where each associated email address can only respond once)

There are lots of other systems... some good, some bad.

7. I'm referring to standard phone polls that are considered the most reliable
but my point is simply that polls a year out don't capture much. They're premature.

9. I like exit polls...
The rest are all questionable. Zogby does a good job for the most part, but sometimes the answers they provide for the questions are not what I'd say are good answers. Same with the phone polls.

Exit polls have a history of reliability, despite what BushCo says:)

You're right about it being too early though. A lot of us have not made up our minds. Teetering...
