Chris Mathews: 'Obama winning Iowa would be bigger than the Berlin Wall coming down'
Edited on Wed Dec-26-07 05:08 PM by Kurt_and_Hunter
'The biggest political story of our lives.' 'Bigger than the first post-apartheid elections in Africa...'

(I am not making this up.)

20. He probably has a gross of underwear so he can start to change them
when Hillary wins. He really deserved the P.U.litzey award.

2. Obama winning the presidency might not even be the biggest political story of our lives.
Edited on Wed Dec-26-07 05:06 PM by TwilightZone
Much less just winning Iowa.

8. An African American winning the US Presidency. It would be the greatest political story of recent
history and all across the world.

18. The key term in your statement is "recent".
That term was not used in Matthews' statement. His statement extends to "lifetime", which would include the fall of the Soviet Union and the tearing down of the Berlin Wall, two events that arguably had more worldwide impact than would an Obama election.

22. Sorry, but there is a generation (mine) that doesn't really remember the Berlin Wall
teardown really as part of OUR history.

28. Well this would be a direct US political story.
Not an indirect political story - like Berlin or S. Africa.

5. Here's the quote and a filmclip:
“The biggest American political story in modern times if Obama wins the Iowa caucuses. It’ll be all over the world, it will sweep the headlines of every newspaper in the world, friend, foe or neutral. It will be the Third World story of the century, the last century, the biggest story of modern Third World history really, if Obama wins the American presidential caucus in Iowa.”

23. He has some serious hate for the Clinton's. A Woman
getting the nod and/or becoming President would also be earth shattering. But I'm backing JRE cause he is for the middle class and he is SMART. Come to think of it, getting rid of GWB is going to be earth shattering, from all the celebrating that will go on around the globe!

29. Actually, no.
Taylor Marsh and Hillary are much more snuggly and cozy than Tweety and any presidential candidate.

So the answer is ... no.

21. And if Obama loses Iowa Tweety will become Pete/Repeat
and say the same thing about NH, SC, Nevada...Hawaii...Guam...actually if Obama does not get the nomination look for Tweety to challenge Hillary to a duel.

No one will give two hoots about Bill Clinton's wife winning in Iowa, yet a biracial man winning in a predominately white state will make international headlines.
