Washington Post: "Clinton, Obama Seize on Killing"
Edited on Fri Dec-28-07 02:14 AM by calteacherguy
Page one today.

http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/article/2007/12/27/AR2007122702514.html?hpid=topnews

The media is sick. They are promoting the politicalization of this shamelessly. That has to be the most disturbing headline I have ever read.

1. Interesting.
Clinton and Obama, being trailblazers, are the most likely candidates of a similar fate. But I'm ever so sure that hasn't occurred to them or their staff. How many of Bhutto's staff were killed with her?

3. The thought crossed my mind several times today that this could be Obama's fate
in particular. It's horrible, and it's something I don't want to think about. I do suspect it crossed Obama's mind today. He seemed unusually somber.

Of course, assassination could happen to any candidate. Certainly there are a lot of irrational "Hillary haters" out there. But racism runs with an even deeper kind of hate, I think.

The bottom line is we have to live in hope, not fear. We can't let the hate win.

16. But sometimes it does, anyway.
Yesterday, unfortunately, was such a day.

I didn't read or hear any of the candidate's responses. I don't have it in me to judge them on their reaction to something so visceral to THEM. To us, the assassination of a leader of a foreign country isn't that close to home. The most we can feel is grief or anger. For our candidates, they have to cope with actual fear which they must ignore, put aside, pretend isn't an issue.

But assassination is now on the table. And idiots get ideas.

We forget that acting on ambition is an act of courage. To accept the bullseye that you wear every day as a candidate, a spokesman, a leader is an act of courage. Most days, I'm sure, they forget, too. Because it's too scary to think about. But they have to be thinking about it now. Not just our trailblazers. Every one of them.

4. Huh?
What's disgusting about it? And how are they promoting it? They're reporting what we've been discussing here all day.

6.  Obama was quoted at the end of article
THIS WILL RESONATE WITH THINKING PEOPLE

""In seven days, what was improbable has the chance to beat what Washington said was inevitable," Obama said. "And that's why in these last weeks, Washington is fighting back with everything it has -- with attack ads and insults; with distractions and dishonesty; with millions of dollars from outside groups and undisclosed donors to try and block our path."
-------------------------------------------------------------------
That is the last thing they will read from this AWFUL article, that will help Obama's cause!

14. Strange
I've always considered them (in the last 20 years or so) to be pro-Republican.

17. The headline for this substory, in comparison to the companion
piece regarding the GOP candidates (Candidates Cite Terror Credentials) is what makes this such an overtly biased piece.
