Poll question: Will the Bhutto assassination have an effect on the Primaries?
With the Bhutto assassination happening one week before the Iowa Caucuses, do you think the assassination will have an impact on the Primaries (regardless of who it affects and by how much)?

2. I heard some report on CNN or MSNBC tonight where they were
talking about the impact on Iowa, and the reporter said they interviewed several people after a McCain speech today. A lot of the people said they might be concerned about immigration, the economy, and a lot of other things, but this assination made them refocus and they realize that experience really does matter! I have believe it will have an impact on the priorities of the voters.

3. I think it will depend on the coverage. I can see the potential for an effect in Iowa and NH
but elsewhere, it will depend on whats happening at the time. The news moves so fast that it's easy for things to turn on a dime, and other issues to slide into focus...

4. Why does everything always have to be about USA interests?
It hasn't even been 24 hours and the navel-gazing's already started.

5. Maybe yes. I agree with wlucinda -- it depends on how the situation in
Pakistan unfolds.

OR -- it will DEFINITELY have an effect if Bush cancels the elections for whatever terra reason he can dream up.

7. The REAL question is will it effect the E.C.O. balance.
Will the Edwards Clinton Obama race be effected? I think a bump for Biden is unavoidable.

8. Pakistan? Whar's That?
You expect Joe Sixpack and his ignorant wife to give a care?

The unintended consequence of luring Bhutto back into harm's way is Bush has nothing to back Musharraf up with, during the ensuing civil war.

Pakistanis aren't Americans, drugged out on chemical, entertainment, or other addictions. They will fight in the streets.

I'm afraid we will have to wait to see just how far things will have to be pushed before Americans do the same.

9. But Joe Sixpack usually doesn't vote in the primaries.
I expect a bump for McCain, Rudy, and Mitt. Rudy even brought up ninee levven today. If terra terra continues into next year Dems will become increasingly irrelevant. This may lead us to the same place as Nov 1 2004 when Osama's election-eve message to "vote for Kerry" surfaced and pushed Bush to "victory." All part of Darth Cheney's master plan dontchaknow.

13. The MSM certainly seems to think so--those who pull their strings may hope so.
Listening to the pundits, it seems like it will be a boost for certain candidates: McCain, Guiliani on the GOP side Clinton and maybe Biden on the Democratic side. It will damage Huckabee and Obama/Edwards. Bill Richardson may have committed the unforgivable sin of saying the unthinkable--i.e. Musharraf should step down in favor of an interrum coalition government and could be this years "Suicidal Truth Teller" (the winner in 2004 was Howard Dean with his immortal "Saddam Hussein's capture will not make America any safer." statement and could not only rule himself out of the nomination but lock himself out of any consideration for Vice-President.

Or is this what the powers that be want to have happen. Huckabee was making them profoundly nervous. Obama is an unknown quantity and Edwards has declared himself to be a full blown populist. Better for the powers that be for Americans to elect the safe, the proven, the politicians who will not rock the boat.

Just a thought
