In Miami, Giuliani vows to pressure Cuba

Presidential candidate Rudy Giuliani stumped Thursday afternoon at the Bay of Pigs Museum in Little Havana, offering up tough talk on ailing Cuban leader Fidel Castro and his brother, Raúl, who is now in charge of the island's communist government.

In a brief campaign speech in front of an audience of about 60 people, Giuliani exalted the work of the exile Brigade 2506, which led the failed 1961 Bay of Pigs invasion of Cuba, calling them patriots who sacrificed themselves to spread freedom and democracy.

If elected president, Giuliani said, he will increase pressure on the Cuban government in an effort to bring democratic, multiparty elections after almost 49 years of Castro rule.

''We will not accept attempts to preserve Castroism in any form,'' said Giuliani, who wore a white plastic bracelet inscribed with the word cambio, or ''change''. ``Cuba, I hope and pray, will move closer to freedom.''

Giuliani's visit came after a recent surge by former Arkansas Gov. Mike Huckabee, currently his main competition in Florida polls. Supporting Giuliani were Florida Attorney General Bill McCollum, Hialeah Mayor Julio Robaina, County Commissioner Carlos Gimenez and state Rep. René García, whose district includes Miami Lakes and Hialeah.

1. USA should give full recognition to CUBA and establish all kinds of ties because ->
we have all kinds of ties with russian and china, both of which can blow us off the planet at any second

history has shown that one great way to get rid of dictators is to have free and open communications with the people who are oppresed, thus undermining the power structure.

the only reason we have current type relations with CUBA is because of political pandering to cuban refugees/imigrants in Florida. Strictly vote buying.

2. What does he means "Patriots"?
...calling them patriots who sacrificed themselves to spread freedom and democracy.

Does he means they were Cuban patriots or American patriots serving our country?

5. And, back in '61 weren't the Cubans who were involved in the Bay of Pigs
Batista loyalists? - Hardly an icon of "freedom and democracy".

9. That's a very creepy bunch, isn't it? Holy smokes. No surprise Bernardo de Torres finally moved to
Chile, home of Operation Condor, and mass murdering/torturing Augusto Pinochet, and a whole lot of CIA involved people. He should have felt right at home, sorta like a retirement center for assassins.

As I didn't know about these particular guys, I'm very happy to have their names to be able to add to files for future reference.

Is this, by the way, a photo of some more henchmen not present when your photo was taken?

6. He's trying to
pander his way to victory. He hasn't seen an ass he wouldn't kiss for a vote. His resemblance to Nosferatu is uncanny.
The hero of 911 knew the potential of the WTC as a target and had no evacuation plan in place. Where I come from that's called negligence.
