Clinton's "don't ask" policy

http://latimesblogs.latimes.com/washington/2007/12/clintons-dont-a.html

As she races through Iowa in the days before next week's caucuses, Hillary Clinton is taking few chances. She tells crowds that it’s their turn to “pick a president,’’ but over the last two days she has not invited them to ask her any questions.

Before the brief Christmas break, the New York senator had been setting aside time after campaign speeches to hear from the audience. Now when she’s done speaking, her theme songs blare from loudspeakers, preventing any kind of public Q&A.

She was no more inviting when a television reporter approached her after a rally on Thursday and asked if she was “moved’’ by Benazir Bhutto’s assassination. Clinton turned away without answering.

Her daughter, Chelsea, had the same reaction when a reporter approached her with a question. Hillary Clinton’s no-question policy didn’t sit well with some of the Iowans who came to see her speak. “I was a little bit underwhelmed,’’ said Doug Rohde, 46, as he left her a rally in a fire station in Denison. “The message was very generic -- and no questions.’’

1. You know what I thought when I heard Wolf say that?
This is the FINAL PUSH, and all the candidates are doing dozens of events. Taking questions takes a lot of additional time and shortens the number of events they can make. I guess when the paper printed that story, her advisors decided to change the plan, but I really can't fault any of them for not wanting to take indvidual questions at this last push.

2. I think that if you look at Clinton, this assassination hit her hard.
She was very somber on CNN, not like the others who were nearly frothing at the mouth to get in front of a camera. She did not speak at all yesterday to the media, and when she gave her statement to the crowd, her voice quavered.

Asked if she was moved by the assassination? Stupid question.

3. I agree. I think she felt it deeply.

4. Hillary knows full well
if she gets the nomination she will have a target on her back for some right wing nut and maybe even some left wing nut that wants to take a shot at her. I can well imagine how this would shake her deeply.

I never thought I would consider that a left wing nut would take a shot at Hillary. But given there is as much acrimony among the left wing toward Hillary as from the right wing, neither would surprise me.

5. I agree about Hillary but you're wrong to lump the others together. Biden was clearly upset.
And I agree, the question asked was incredibly stupid.
