What my dad says about Edwards
My dad has never been involved in the political process, but he's always voted, and almost always voted Democrat. He voted for Perot that one time.

I was telling him about what Edwards is saying (he gets most of his news from the newspapers. He doesn't have internet, or even any computer skills.

Anyway, I told him what I knew and he looked at me and said "if he actually means it...if he tries to do what he says he will, they'll kill him."

Any thoughts?

1. I suppose "they" is corporate interests. And I doubt it

There's a myth that corporate CEO types are shaking in their hand tooled leather shoes at the prospect of a JE presidency. They aren't. They're largely secure that nothing much will change for them- no matter who the president is. I suspect Obama's life is in greater peril than Edwards- credible threats were evidently made against him; that's why he has Secret Service protection now.

3. And you know this all how?
So why did they trot ol' Greenspan out to slap Edwards around? Because they needed a big hand to chase off that nasty mosquito?

5. I know this because I grew up in New Canaan, CT

home to many CEOs of major corporations- from IBM to Time Warner, to Viacom. My mother and three of my sisters still live there. And my mother is still very active in politics. If you can't see the difference between Alan Greenspan making a few nasty remarks abouts Edwards and political assassination- oh well.

Edited to add: And just what are your dad's qualifications for making such a prognostication?

4. Well if John Edwards isn't worried about it, I won't worry either.

If there is that possibility, it won't stop him. One can see he and Elizabeth are offering their life to this country. Someone has to stand up to the stranglers, like now.

10. I'll certainly vote for him if he's the candidate, and I don't hate him
I simply don't think he's that impressive. Of course, odds are that I won't be voting for him. And odds are you'll be voting for someone YOU hate. Or petulantly refusing to do so. That'll be just delightful- either way. I look forward to it.

11. John Edwards safety has crossed my mind also....
Like Bobby Kennedy.... Like Benazir Bhutto....

There are powerful people with billions of dollars on the line.
It's a real possibility, and it CANNOT be allowed to happen!
