Obama says he is inevitable.
Campaign: Obama will win Iowa

Democrat Barack Obama's campaign manager David Plouffe told reporters this morning that Obama is positioned to win the Iowa Caucuses.

“We think we’re going to enter caucus night with enough supporters identified to win even under the most aggressive scenarios,” Plouffe said.

They also said they are going to win the democratic nomination.

1. Did you expect any campaign to say they're going to lose? n/t

19. Many people are not supporting Clinton because they thought
although she never said it (the Media did) that she talked as if she were going to win. They thought that because she thought she was "inevitable" they would not support her.

It was a stupid lie, that for some reason many picked up on as reasons not to support her. Your question is valid: who would say they were going to loose? But, if Clinton says that--she is a bitch who does not deserve a vote.

28. Well, there is a difference between saying, "We're gonna win" and saying ...
"We're inevitable, let's just start talking about the general election."

As for where that strategy came from, it did, in fact, arise from within the Clinton camp, namely via chief strategist Mark Penn:
http://www.newsday.com/news/nationworld/ny-ushill1213,0,2146646.story

And actually, I don't think it was necessarily a bad strategy. I think it was just carried out poorly, both as a result of missteps in the Clinton camp and (even more importantly) the muddled Republican primary. The Clinton campaign had to either commit to it or not -- either act like you're already running against the GOP candidate, or run in the Democratic primary against your Democratic opponents. Unfortunately, the confused Republican primary meant that Clinton couldn't really go after a specific GOP candidate -- there was no obvious frontrunner, the way she was with the Dems until a month or so ago in Iowa (and the way she still is in national polls).

2. So can we replace Clinton's "Queen"
with an Obama "King" now?

Dear me.
What, pray tell, do they mean by "aggressive scenarios"?

3. What would expect campaign staff to say?
We're DOOOOOOOMED!?

I think not.

I think they've got a pretty good shot at winning Iowa. Better than most here would lead to believe...

32. I could definitely live with that ticket
I like Obama at the top, but I recognize that he will need someone with impeccable foreign policy credentials as VP. I worry that Biden wouldn't accept a VP slot if it were offered. So....if your dream ticket becomes a reality, I'm definitely on board!

I think Biden and Obama have a lot of genuine respect for one another, too, BTW. :-)

4. If they don't believe it, no one will. Gobama!
I hope our people get out there and support this man Thursday. It's time to bring this country together and get things done for the people. I hope Iowa makes the right choice.

“We do not think we could be better positioned to win the Democratic nomination,” Plouffe said.

I agree that they are in a good position right now... but...
How is that Obama saying he is inevitable?

10. All campaigns make statements like that
And you'll notice that the candidates usually say "when I'm elected president...", rather than "if I'm elected president...".

This is nothing out of the ordinary- I just hope like hell that Plouffe has his numbers right! :-)

23. Well, I think both are silly
It's like when we get upset because the spouse of someone running says "when my husband/wife is elected." Well, duh, they're not going to say "I hope my husband/wife loses."

It's really getting silly.

Every campaign says that. When Katie Couric asked Hillary what would happen if she didn't win Hillary responded that she would win.

Stop this madness!!!

22. The difference is that many on this board used that excuse as a
reason not to support her. I am so surprised at this response, although I should not be as there is a double standard. But if Clinton mentioned winning or saying something akin to "when I am President..." she was attacked for it.

27. well, someone's campaign decided it would be a good idea
to go with the 'inevitability' route, to squash her dissenters.

It was a part of their strategy, to run as an incumbent.

Fail.

29. That was not the reason they didn't support her
If anyone criticized her for saying that then they were just as petty. I don't remember a lot of people criticizing her for this.

Just because others nitpick doesn't mean you have to.
