Poll question: Is Barack Obama misleading and lying to Iowans as the Edwards camp suggests?
John Edwards's spokesman, Mark Kornblau, said:

"Barack Obama should stop lying to Iowans about John Edwards's record. Really."

2. Have you ever encountered the phrase:
"Don't tip the apple cart when it's rolling downhill?"

3. And here is what Obama said about Edwards' record:
"If you are then choosing between Edwards and myself, then I would say this. He is a fine person, with a beautiful family who's run a very good campaign. But I would say that if you look at the track records of who has really brought about change when then were in a position to do it, then I can make a claim that you can trust, that you can count on. When I was in the senate I fought and got the power of lobbyists reduced, that’s not something that John has invested in, even though he’s talking about it now."

"When I talk about getting troops out of Iraq, I was opposed to the war at the start when it was unpopular to be against the war. John was for it. When I talk about trade, and that we should have environmental agreements in out trade agreements. I didn’t support NAFTA, didn’t vote for permanent trade relations for China, John did."

"When I talk about the hardships of working families and some of them for no fault of their own because they got sick become bankrupt and there were laws passed pushed by the credit card companies that made it harder to get out of bankruptcy and John voted for that provision. I had rejected similar provisions."

5. uh, if obama wants to accuse people of sinning for changing their mind
ask him about his 1996 questionaire when he was actually a true progressive.

Hypocrisy.

8. From 1996 to now is a long time. Edwards started speaking against Iraq in 2005.

9. Obama seems to be banking on his none votes(when he was not in office)...
and the other votes where he just voted present. By saying he was this or that, there is no paper trail to follow. Maybe not lies, but certainly bending the truth considerably.

Since he wasn't in office for some of those votes, he shouldn't be talking about those votes. The votes he claims he has made were only 'present.' He ain't innocent, thats for sure.

Politics y'know.

4. This is a big mistake by Edwards' spokesman
It puts the focus on Edwards' record instead of on his surging poll numbers. Not very smart.

6. John Edwards' Senate record belies his populist "man of the people" rhetoric.
His spokesman has no answer. Thus, the defensive "he's lying about Edwards' record" response.

10. This is not an opinion
What Obama stated was fact. His record does not match his rhetoric. He did vote for all those things Obama said. That is a fact. I know Edwards supporters want to erase the man's Senate record, but that cannot happen. A flip flopper is a flip flopper. They used LIES to smear Kerry and we lost. This time, if Edwards is our nominee, they can stand on truth and principle and defeat this phony. Dems in Iowa really need to wake up.
