OBAMA CAMP resorting to race baiting in final push?
Edited on Mon Dec-31-07 05:20 PM by DemKR
It looks like his wife is doing the dirty work....

"I'm completely confident: Black America will wake up, and get it." - Michelle Obama 11.12.07

It's sad his wife has to do the attacking now that Obama has worn the rest of us out...

This is the 2nd time they've posted off that site in the 5 minutes I've been on here.

43. No, actually I didn't.
She was always toward the bottom of my list but I have spent plenty of time defending her against the people who call her a republican or say she is no different than McCain or any Repub nominee. Posters like you make me a lot less likely to defend her.

I've seen the article and she was hardly attacking anyone.

4. Actual black female here...
Black America should wake up. There is no doubt that out of all of our candidates, Obama has the most experience not only working with the black community, but bringing about actual change for the better in the black community. Show me a candidate who has a better understanding of the complexities of black life in this country. Please, convince me.

Knowing the complexities of "black life"....
Isn't going to help straighten out our fucked up foreign policy.

And somehow, I doubt leading an upper class life in private schooling helped him develop the understanding you claim he has.

15. Actually it is a
huge plus. There is a reason, for example, why Jesse Jackson was able to get hostages back years ago. Other countries recognize that non-white citizens have a different experience in the United States.

I like all of the democratic candidates. This morning, I posted a brief essay, listing positive qualities of each of the democratic candidates. It subk like a rock, of course!

23. Yes, complexities of black life, honey.
It may not help him straighten out foreign policy, but it matters to black folks. We have concerns unique to us and they may not matter much to you, but they do to us. And just for your information, Obama grew up middle class in a two bedroom apartment in Hawaii. He went to that fancy private school because he was bright enough to get a scholarship and excelled at one of the best prep schools in this country.

That said, even though you got his family's economic status wrong, growing up middle class and going to private schools does not make one less black. That's insulting, just so you know. That's what I, a proud upper middle class girl educated a private institutions, mean when I talk about the "complexities" of black life. Educate yourself. And again, show me a candidate who has a better understanding of that.

44. Um, he didn't "lead an upper class life in private schooling"
maybe you should study up on the man a little before you form your opinions.

Obama's life, while interesting, was not at all as you described it. And the choices he made AFTER college, when he decided against the big bucks, and went for community work in bad neighborhoods, would indeed help him develop the understanding the poster claims he has.

6. now if one were to flip that
and have Hillary saying that she's "completely confident" that women would "wake up and get it", the attacks about her being sexist and trading on her gender would never stop.

Just sayin'

8. If a woman said that she like Hillary
but won't vote for her because she doesn't believe a woman can win, then Hillary would be right to speak up and say "WAKE UP, Ladies" and quit buying into the idea that you can't achieve because you are female. There's not a thing wrong with what Michelle said.

12. Obama hasn't worn the rest of us out, and the blacks have started to come around because
two months ago they were paranoid over losing the 08 election to a repug and as a last result switched over to Hillary because she seemed more electable at the time, but that was then. Things have since changed.

22. Several reasons.
Black, brown, red and yellow people have had different experiences in the USA, as groups, than white people. In many ways, the democratic party has been more responsive in recent decades to that fact. The democratic party has not been perfect, but it has been far better than the republican party. The democratic often appeals to non-white groups as voting blocks. It happened in '04 with the Lakota people in the South Dakota: they recognized the democratic party offered them a better deal that the republican party.

The fact that some non-white people are supporting black for reasons that include his being black is an example of a voting block. It's a good thing.

Michelle Obama said this over a month and a half ago. There were at least a dozen threads on it in here.

You said race baiting in the final push, I didn't realize a month and a half ago was the "final push." Thank you for enlightening me.

Tom Joyner asked her "What is up with Black women?" Meaning, what's wrong with Black women (like ME) who don't support Obama.

If Obama's wife said that, it's pretty tacky. I miss Theresa Heinz Kerry. :)

Hillary will do far more for all Americans, including black Americans, than any of the dem nominees running.
