Are the negative, vicious attacks by Edwards and Hillary's 527s hurting them?
I always thought Iowans hate negative ads and with the latest polls showing (particularly DMR) Edwards not really moving up, might the reason be related to the negative attacks that his 527 groups put out against Obama. Hillary's 527 also put out a deceptive 537 ad against Obama. I think the Iowans are rejecting these ads and the candidates that they these 527 are supposed to support.

Also, it should be noted that Obama is leading among union households over Clinton and Edwards.

1. Union household info
Where did you get that info?

Kerry led union households all through the primaries too, a detail often overlooked. He also led the young people's vote. What's happening on the ground doesn't accurately make it into the media a lot of the time.

3. Latest DMR poll
Obama leads among union households with 29% versus 28% for Edwards and Clinton.

5. Okay, I missed that
I was impressed with the 35-54 age bracket, which nobody is reporting on - and the white male vote which everybody says he can't get. I totally missed the union numbers. Thanks!!

2. It's hard to say. Is something else hurting them more? Has something that helped them cooled down?

Are other candidates gaining ground on other fronts for other reasons? It's really difficult to pin down.

4. I think some 527 ads can be misleading and I think they all are illegal that I've seen
But I haven't seen any that are what I would call vicious attacks. Iowans possibly look at them as campaign contrast ads produced by campaigns themselves, rather than as negative campaigning. The biggest offense is against campaign finance laws and integrity and that may not be immediately apparent to voters.

6. The pro-Edwards group didn't make a negative ad.
Here's the text of their ad:

“The price of dependence on foreign oil. Health care in crisis. Government run by corporate lobbyists. Isn't it time someone had a plan to take them on? The Edwards plan: Ban campaign cash from lobbyists. End tax breaks for big oil. Stop job killing trade deals. Stand up to insurance companies for real health reform.

Ask all the candidates what their plan is to level the playing field."

There is nothing negative, harsh, or dishonest about that ad.

Barack Obama deliberately misled his supporters into thinking the pro-Edwards 527 was putting out an attack ad. It wasn't.

Barack Obama has run a purely Rovian campaign. Everything he says is dishonest.

7. HRC is ahead and Many Insiders know Edwards may
win.

Negative Ads work. Romney just brought Huckabee into slow fall.
