Kucinich on Central American Free Trade Agreement (CAFTA)
Edited on Thu Dec-18-03 06:51 PM by redqueen
12/18/03
"CAFTA not only rhymes with NAFTA, but will extend the economic 'disasta' that Ohio knows something about to more Americans, especially in the South. That is because CAFTA will cause the textile mills of the Carolinas and Georgia to close in the face of imports made cheaper by the agreement.

"Some industry experts estimate that dozens of mills, and tens of thousands of textile mill workers, that are currently hanging on, will go bankrupt. The only beneficiaries will be companies with Central American and Asian factories. The President has also betrayed the millions of poor people in Central America. Under CAFTA, they'll no longer be able to get access to low-cost pharmaceuticals, which will be made illegal under CAFTA."

I love it...
"CAFTA not only rhymes with NAFTA, but will extend the economic 'disasta'"

Has his outreach in the hip hop community rubbed off on our beloved Kooch? ;)

4. He SO rocks on all the issues.
I cannot wait to hear the commentary from our nine candidates after the CAFTA issue is raised in congress next month.

How might that change the polls?

How many support making what we don't have working right now WORSE?!

8. Lack of commentary
Well isn't this heartening.

The only guy who will get us out of this nightmare and nobody else comes in to say anything. Is it just me or does it seem like a lot of Democrats are whistling past the graveyard on this issue?

I am starting to get very upset about this. Where are the Dems on this issue? All this talk about reforming these agreements strikes me as hollow when nobody will debunk Kucinich's statement that we can't do that under the rules of the WTO.

I trust Kucinich. And to any supporters of any other candidates saying they'll reform it... ask yourself - no better yet, ask the candidate why Kucinich is saying it can't be done?

And also, why hasn't it already been done? It's been a decade already... let's get a straight answer before we decide our future, please!

11. Well I don't know about you two...
but I'm really tired of this avoidance.

This should be an issue... instead all we hear about is Saddam Saddam Saddam... !!!!

I was going to put a link here to a page with information about how damaging these programs are, but what's the point? These threads are avoided like the plague, apparently.
