BREAKING: Kucinich fails to qualify for Texas ballot because he refuses pledge to support nominee!
From the Houston Chronicle:
"Democrat Dennis Kucinich apparently will not be on the ballot because the party returned his application after he scratched out a portion of the oath pledging support for the party's presidential nominee if it was not him, said party spokeswoman Amber Moon."

This offers some insight both to Kucinich's flirtation with Republican Ron Paul as VP and his endorsement of Barack "Reach Out to Republicans" Obama.

11. This is a fine example of his rigid stance.
He is incapable of negotiation, a skill necessary for a U.S President. So much like George Bush, "You are either with me or against me" but from the left window view.

7. If you are going to run as a Democrat...then you need to abide by those rules...
And support the nominee if it isn't you...

Otherwise run as an independent..

14. Me too.
I seem to remember loads of laughter and derision when the Republicans did this but now it is OK for us to do it too? Wow. Kinda scary, no, very scary.

Loyalty oaths?! Then taking him off the ballot?

IA & NH debates. MI and FL. Now this: Voters are getting robbed of choice - FOR STUPID REASONS

Why are the two parties in power afraid of Democracy?

13. does anyone know if this is a new thing for Texas or if they had the same requirement in 04?
The reason I ask is that DK participated in the Texas primary in 04, which makes me wonder whether he agreed to the "support the party candidate" pledge then and, if so, why he won't do so now. Makes me wonder if its really a principled stand or just that he wants to keep his powder dry to support a third party candidate this time around.

For the record, I'm not completely comfortable with "loyalty oaths". However, I see a distinction between requiring someone to sign a pledge as a condition of voting in a party primary (which the repubs briefly tried to do here in Virginia before backing down) and requiring a candidate to sign such a pledge before being allowed on the ballot.

16. Hmmm. It is obviously a bad thing...
to have principles and to stand by them.

We must squelch every iota of independence from our candidates. Principles are great and all, but we must get ELECTED. I'm sure the people we're selling out to won't expect our candidates to bend those principles once in office... :eyes:

Can't say it any better than that.

I give Denis a lot of credit for sticking with his principles. Sounds like someone I would like as President.
