You have to be divisive to get anything done
Edited on Thu Jan-03-08 10:55 AM by Armstead
I finally put my finger on what it is about Obama that bothers me.

There is no way anything is going to get accomplished without divisiveness. Anything that is done is going to piss off some segments of the population. Doesn't matter how polite or conciliatory or open to compromise we may try to be. As long as anyone's cage is rattled, there's going to be divisiveness.

Do you really expect the Big Corporations to suddenly say: "Okay. Well Barak said he wants to bring us together. So we'll lay down our arms, and support regulations that might lower our profits."

Do you really expct Big Oil and the speculators to suddenly say: "Well those consumers need a break. We'll lower our gas and heating fuel prices, just because we think it's the right thing to do and Barak asked us nicely."

Do you really expect the healthcare insurers and HMO's to suddenly say: "You know Barak has a point. We really should lower our premiums and cover those with health problems."

Do you really expect Big Media to say: "yes we should treat out news divisions as a public service, and provide intelligent and balanced coverage of seriousd issues, regardless of the ratings."

Do you really expect the right wing findies to suddenly say: "Yes we really do new to be more tolerant, and stop trying to impose our Christian values on everyone else."

Rather than continue to see Democrats back down for fear of being too "divisive," I'd rather see the battle lines being drawn to protect the lower and middle classes, the notion of actual competition in business and a true dedication to protecting the interests of the majority and advancing civil rights and equality.
