Edwards Says Democratic Race Is Not Over
Tue February 24, 2004 04:13 PM ET

By Christina Ling
ATLANTA (Reuters) - Democratic presidential hopeful John Edwards insisted on Tuesday the race for the party's nomination was not over and told President Bush to wait for a winner before taking on front-runner John Kerry.

One day after Bush launched his re-election drive with a strong defense of his administration and a direct attack on Kerry, Edwards reminded everyone that the nomination race was still up in the air.

"Not so fast, George Bush, you don't get to decide who our nominee is," Edwards said in an event at the state capitol, reprising a line he used against Kerry last week in a debate in Wisconsin.

The North Carolina senator accepted the endorsement of more than 30 state legislators in Georgia, one of 10 states holding potentially decisive "Super Tuesday" contests next week.

2. What do you expect him to say? This from a man who has won 1 state,
his native state, no less.

3. Darn tootin. So sad folks think one primary and the media is all it takes
to pick the next presidential candidate.

6. Interesting

Survey USA says recently:

Georgia: Kerry 50, Edwards 19, Sharpton 12, Dean 10
Texas: Kerry 47, Edwards 17, Dean 16
Florida: Kerry 62, Edwards 25
Ohio: Kerry 53, Edwards 30, Kucinich 10
Maryland: Kerry 47, Edwards 15, Dean 12, Sharpton 10

Kerry's numbers are between 60% and 75% in all Northern states and California, Edwards' numbers there are between 11% and 25%. (Some of these are from before Dean's dropout.)

That's a lot of comeback for Edwards, if he manages to pull it off.
